  18. Ke Huy Quan in the lead role with his kids taking the mantle and those kids also having super gadgets. I’d watch the shit out of that. Fit in the old cast in supporting roles that work for a good storyline and I smell summer blockbuster.

  28. Disney has already made Goonies 2 with Skeleton Crew and it was fantastic. I don’t think Spielberg can top it.

It should be their kids going on a goonie style of adventure and then they realize what their kids have done they have to follow in their footsteps to find them so we get to see the original Goonies doing the adventure too but the main focus of the movie is the kids doing the adventure. I think that would be awesome personally.

  32. The first film is 40 years old, give or take. These kids are old enough to have grandkids now.

  38. You know, I always hoped there would be more sequels to perfect stand-alones, given the success of ‘my girl 2’… let’s get after it with ‘the outsiders: on the inside’, ‘12 angry men… and a baby’ and ‘stand by me Too’. Who needs originality when everything sucks so hard that anything will do

  39. I am stoked for this, but at the same time I am really wondering about the script.

    The main actors are actually all too old to have children in the 9-12 age range. And they’re still too young to have grandkids.

    That being the case, then the adventure would have to focus on all of the original main cast with no young kids to serve as the next generation. That could work, but it would have to be a fantastic script. Fingers crossed!

  45. Weird how this should be top news at r/movies, but somehow it’s buried here in the middle of r/entertainment. I guess people are burnt out about hearing about this?

    Anyway, can’t help but have a little spark of excitement. I’m sure it’ll focus on their kids or something, but I’m a sucker for a legacy sequel. Maybe they can “Stand by Me” it.

  47. The window of opportunity for a Goonies II probably closed 20 years ago. The kids who went to see the original in theaters (hello!) are now in their 40s and beyond.

  48. A mini-series could be interesting like a better more mature version of a stranger things type show but I get the sense that trying to make sequel literally 40 years after the original might not turn out great so hopefully it’s good

  50. The plot is that they’re still in financial ruin in 2025 due to another big recession. Here comes foreclosure again!!! And the only way out is to magically make enough money to appease the rich people at the bank for another 40 years, hopefully they’ll all be dead before they’d need Goonies 3 to pay off the town elite again.
