Tokyo Tower, a symbol of Japan’s capital, was lit up in the three colors of the South Korean flag — red, blue and white — on Saturday night to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the normalization of bilateral diplomatic ties.

At the lighting ceremony of the 333-meter landmark tower, Japanese Senior Deputy Foreign Minister Takehiro Funakoshi said in his speech, “I would like to support exchanges so that the people of both countries can forge better relations.”

Japan and South Korea normalized diplomatic ties in 1965. The two nations have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting cooperation to mark the anniversary.
