EU pivot to China would be a logical move. US is pissing away it’s global dominance in an extraordinary speed.
Any enhancement of communication in this day and age is very much welcome.
good work usa, your plan is working really well 😅
If the EU pivots to China it will mean they haven’t learned any lessons at all lol. But it will be entertaining to watch them try.
As European I think we shouldn’t make the same mistake again, pending totally on another country as we did with the US.
However, at least for now, is the best move but we must seek total independence from anyone.
Great, it looks like the US foreign policy stance is working!
EU needs to heavily invest on defence and strategic defence tools from its own soil so it can cut dependencies from the US (and China). But before that is all set and done we need to balance our relationship with US and China for the upcoming 10-20 years.
EU should move towards China , as a counter weight to US
It is clear that the position of the United States has shifted; they now identify China as the main threat to their national security, rather than Russia. Hence why they are questioning their involvement in NATO and European security, instead preferring to focus on China.
For India, the main rival is also China, which will naturally push them into a closer alliance with the USA. We saw proof of that this week, with Trump agreeing to sell India F-13 jets. India have always maintained a good relationship with Russia, which has historically been a problem to the USA (who also favoured Pakistan). Now that the USA has demoted Russia as a primary threat and Pakistan has allied with China (America’s new primary rival), this will push India and the USA closer together.
For Europe, the obvious threat remains Russia, and in this way, Europe risks becoming somewhat diplomatically isolated. Russia is a large regional power with many neighbours. But its neighbours in Western and Central Asia are friendly (except for Georgia). In terms of defence, Europe kinda has to go at it alone, because America and India are more focused on China.
Which leaves the EU-China relationship in an interesting spot in a multipolar world. Perhaps the next few decades may witness somewhat of a diplomatic realignment.
One potential future scenario is that the United States steps back from Europe, perhaps even leaving NATO. The perception of NATO in Russia is that of American imperialism, seeing NATO as an extension of American aggression pointed at Russia. A US withdrawal from Europe, and Europe moving towards autonomous self defence, may shift Russia’s perception, potentially enabling a de-escalation.
Europe is a technologically-scarce continent and China is the opposite so pivoting to China does make sense and in fact, they have complement each other, economically wise.
Trump and his MAGA cult supporters don’t care about Europe at all.
