As we pass the mid-point in the winter heating season, some people may notice a higher energy bill and wonder what would be contributing to that.
National Grid tells CBS the cost of natural gas supply has risen leading to some of these increases.
However, these upticks are mainly increased colder weather this winter.
The National Weather Service says this past December was 25% colder than winter 2023.
This past January was about 15% colder.
National Grid spokesperson Patrick Stella joined CBS6’s Emma Quinn Saturday morning with some money-saving tips.
“Insulation is the first one. Sealing around windows, doors, things like that; anywhere you might feel a breeze. Making sure that the equipment that you have- your furnace, HVAC equipment is serviced and maintained on a regular basis and running as efficiently as it can.”
If you are having a hard time making those monthly payments, National Grid has resources to help find the best solution for your needs, those include bill extension programs and payment plans.
