1. I think the entire population needs to put on antidepressants and/or anti anxiety meds. Your society is in serious trouble.

   5% of the world population and 30% of the mass shootings.

2. The knowledge that semiautomatic rifles are easily available acts as a catalyst for these fantasies among troubled American teens. It makes the whole idea seem more real, more solid, more *possible.* And that turns their thoughts toward turning fantasy into reality.

   When troubled teens in countries with gun control have these thoughts, the fantasy seems less real, less attainable. They have virtually no chance of getting hold of an AR-15 or indeed any kind of gun suitable to carry out a massacre, so the fantasy is less likely to “take hold” and turn into a solid plan. And of course even if it did progress to the point where they want to turn a fantasy into reality, where are they gonna get the gun?

   Thus: school massacres are a regular occurrence in the US, but not elsewhere.
