I moved to Malta not long ago and I would really appreciate if anybody could clarify information which I found on [rentregistration.mt](https://rentregistration.mt/the-rental-contract/).
>The first six months are mandatory for the lessee; Following the obligatory six months, the lessee may be released from the contract by giving at least one (1) month notice to the lessor by means of a registered letter
Does it mean that for a **one-year lease** contract the lessee can be released after giving a notice period at the **end of the 5 month** and leaving the place at the **end of the 6th month**? thank you

I read it as 6 months obligatory then, after that, you can give 1 month notice making it 6+1 months = 7 months.
**Answer**: One can leave the place at the **end of the sixth month**
I received an answer from rent registration office (very responsive):
>Yes, the notice can be given on the sixth month and leave the place at the end of the sixth month. Kindly note also that the notice of withdrawal must strictly be done in the manner provided for in the Law (art.11), that is by registered mail.
