    then why not just let them join now, and hopefully prevent te next invasion completely?

  2. Part of the peace deal is that Ukraine immediatly becomes part of nato. That way another war WILL NEVER happen. Russia can threaten all they want to nato countries but he will never invade.. Trump needs to make sure entry to NATO is an immediate guarantee, have Ukraine agree to the US allow mining in Ukraine in return for a joint US/Nato/Ukraine air and military base. With nato and American troops stationed in Ukraine, not a single shot will ever be fired again in Ukraine. Ukraine will have to officially recognize Crimea as being Russia now, give Kursk back to Russia but also get some of its occupied territory back from
    Russia including most importantly Mariupol and the zaphorozia power plant region. Russia will inherit some land that it has taken over but that’s it. War ends but both Ukraine and Russia will have to give something up.

  4. The problem is NATO does not allow membership with an ongoing territorial dispute or active conflict. The line that should be drawn is if Putin doesn’t want to play ball in negotiations he should know that once the ink is dry on any settlement, NATO membership will be granted and we dare you to try it again. But even that proposal will require a unanimous vote, and Hungary, Turkey and sad to say, even the United States now are questionable actors in that regard.

    Unfortunately, without some kind of solid security guarantee and strong international commitments to rebuild civil, economic and military infrastructure, I don’t see Ukraine preventing or even surviving a second conflict with Russia.

  10. So pretty much you want to give them the option of article 5 without actually guaranteeing article 5? Right… Like the Budapest memorandum you mean. Security guarantees that aren’t guaranteed.

  12. If they join *beforehand* there won’t *be* another invasion. But anyway you dolt, why don’t you pound the table with your shoe in front of the cameras demanding US give Ukraine what it needs to rapidly kick Russia’s ass out of the 1991 borders, with *no guarantees at all*? We’ll more than make up the investment with good will and future relations, with Ukraine’s agricultural, fisheries, and strategic mineral resources fully integrating into western markets, with Ukraine a democratic part of EU and NATO. The long term dividends to the US would make the military investment needed to rapidly restore the 1991 borders a smart bargain, with high longterm ROI.

It has the best credentials to join NATO – what other European nation has fought with such tenacity, courage, guile, fortitude and determination against a genocidal russian invasion, occupation and had to withstand well over 80,000 individual war crimes… that’s good enough to join right now and those countries that object might as well leave NATO and do it a favour

    Russia needs to be placed in the position of never being able to attack any country in the future. Now is the time to prevent any future Russian aggression. Real sanctions and real isolation is the answer.

  24. If Europe shows some balls (and the German elections and coalition talks that will follow don’t go too badly for UA), then honestly, American opinions may cease to matter on the subject. The US have decided they’re done with the whole democracy thing while joining the ranks of the bully nations. The American geopolitical situation was mainly built on their soft power (actively being dismantled) and the promise to offer protection from bullies to their allies – plus coercion if their vital interests are at stake. Unless some radical change happens in Trump (or he’s removed), the US will lose the first 2 of these 3 things. All close allies are distrustful, an economic crisis is more likely with all the tariff nonsense… most likely outcome imo is that the US retreat to a much weaker, more isolated stance for years to come, maybe lose their democracy all meanwhile, Ukraine and Europe will follow in the disaster or maybe, hopefully, salvage something. With 3 years time to restart weapons production, EU countries are more armed than before and maybe we have enough to see Ukraine through until the Russian economy completely goes down the drain. Ukraine has shifted to a drone focus, will be able to produce millions of cheap, cost effective and very damaging units. That with traditional arms, money from frozen assets and artillery ammo that ought to be produced at decent rates now, maybe it’s enough.

    My vote in general right now is to just ignore the US as best as possible until the 2026 midterms, see if they still got free elections then, check again in 2028 if they came to their senses… if yes, cool, if not… fuck em.
