3. European leadership is not acting quickly enough. Even if we can get any guarantees from the US it will come at great cost to us. It’s not worth it. I wish I saw signs they at least recognise this.

   Sarcastic disclaimer: since its apparently not obvious, no I don’t think US giving guarantees would actually guarantee anything.

7. Why does he think Ukraine is part of Europe ? They are not in NATO and as it seems they will not be able to join it. Same thing with EU membership.

    Unless you’re proposing federalising alongside it, a European army without an overarching European political system is absolutely dead in the water, and the general European public isn’t exactly amenable to federalisation.

17. We have been able to manage with a feel good version of a European military strategy because the US wanted to be world police. – Now that he obviously not an option anymore. We Europeans need to step up and work together and commit to each other.

    That doesn’t mean that we drop democracy – but we need a Europe that can act swiftly and forcefully, with the mandate of all of us. We need the EU version of the US. We need to make EU into the super power Putin was always afraid we might become.

    We’re not going to lose our identity as countries but the world is changing and we the monster at our doorstep is very reel – we need to be be able to fight it.

26. Trump will claim a deal with Russia, Russia calls it peace, Trump will lift the sanctions and Russia will start rebuilding their army. After a few years Russia will start a war and if we are lucky the US will do nothing but probably they’ll help Russia.
    We need to kick down Russia and arm ourselves in any way against our former-ally-but-now-enemy the USA. An European army on top of the list, but so many more items are on it as well.
