  1. loyalty is like anything of value-it must be maintained and cultivated.

  2. If a war starts Gen Z will be receiving a letter from the MOD.

  3. Like they can avoid it if all out war broke out 😂 they wouldn’t even fight if their families were at harm

  4. No it doesn’t. It’s their testicular fortitude that this calls into question, not their intelligence.

  5. Why would you want to die for a country that you don’t feel like has done anything to help you?

I’m a millennial, would I fight for the UK? Nope.

I’d help defend if we were attacked but I’m not going to a foreign land to fight.

  6. Yes, not wanting to die for a country is the opposite of stupid, in fact.

  7. Boomers are always the ones salivating the most at sending young boys to die whilst simultaneously gaslighting them and telling them they just need to work abit harder and they too can afford the life style their generation had (never had a major war though). A wicked, spiteful and nasty generation that history won’t be kind to.

  8. Why would anyone want to die for a government and a system that has proved time and time again that it doesn’t give the slightest bit of a fuck what happens to the average Brit and to the younger generations of this country in general?

If war broke out I’d be one of the first on a boat, truck or plane to another country. And I imagine most other people in Gen Z who have that option would take it too but I can’t speak for them.

  9. The question itself is stupid since it cannot be verified until shit hits the fan.
And this goes both ways since even the ones that “would die for the country” could chicken out.

As a matter of fact, regardless of the answer, the vast majority would still fight since the alternative will likely be worse

  10. Honestly I don’t know what I would be even trying to protect. I care about my family but that’s about it. The UK is an awful country to be young in now.

  11. *And when the sky darkens and the prospect is war*

*Who’s given a gun and then pushed to the fore*

*And expected to die for the land of our birth*

*Though we’ve never owned one lousy handful of earth*

  12. I’d fight to defend my family, which is to say if someone was bombing the UK, but every war people are talking about is sending British people (lets be honest – Men) to another country to fight a war. Why would I want to do that?

A lot of the views in this article are explained by an easy fact – the country has failed a generation. It’s not just “gen Z” either. Look how many under 35s life with parents because they can’t afford a place.

    >Gen Z has landed here after suffering dire socioeconomic circumstances. They entered adulthood in a recession just as the guardrails against disinformation began rapidly decreasing and, having come of age during Covid, have not known life without the blaring, misinformed noise of social media. They deserve connection and curiosity, especially from older generations that have not contended with even a shadow of these difficulties.

The same as anyone who left school after 2008. The issue here is nothing has changed, and both Labour and the tories have shown they can’t fix it. So yes, people are looking elsewhere.

Despite the headline though this is just someone complaining young people are turning to the right. That’s not bad in itself. The issue why they are doing it, and who is offering “solutions”.

  13. Let’s be honest, if the call up for war had come the day after the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, everyone in the country would have risen up and fought, whatever the cause. It’s been all downhill since in terms of national pride.

  14. Some of the comments here prove why Millennials and Gen Z’s have these opinions. Instead of trying to understand their situation, they are chastising them instead.

What an amazing supportive society, they’d certainly want to risk their life for them /s 🤣

  15. Let’s face it, at the moment, the most likely person to start a new war is Trump with his very aggressive posturing towards other countries with the threat of tariffs on their imports and his, interests, in making Canada and Greenland part of the USA and just whatever the hell he thinks he can do to take over the Panama canal from Panama – all while doing nothing about the price of eggs.

I can’t see any Brits from Gen Z or the Millennials wanting to go war either on Trump’s side or against him, but it would be interesting to see them polled on that.

  16. It wasn’t what was stated. They said they weren’t prepared to die for their country for no reason. The statistic went up when it was for a good reason. Guardian poor click bait.

  17. If I was forced to, I would point my rifle towards the UK join the enemy. Go out on my own terms.

  18. What amuses me most is that Gen Z think they’re special and different to previous generations, including those who fought in WW2. The Oxford Union voted that it would never vote for King and Country before WW2 and that generation is now regarded as the greatest generation. Heads up; you’re not more intelligent, insightful or moralistic and if the time comes, you’ll inevitably do what’s required.

  19. Most people of all ages don’t WANT to die at all so this has always been a stupid question.

  20. I wouldn’t and I wouldn’t want my children fighting for the country – let the rich fight it out- after all it’s greedy land grabbers or rich greedy arms dealers and the like that benefit and the poor die in the trenches.

The rich get richer and the poor die. Why would anyone want to fight someone across the other side of the world that’s done nothing to them?

  21. People that own property in the UK finally wake up that nobody wants to die for there stuff.

  22. According to ITV news, the man who burned a quran outside the Turkish embassy has been remanded into custody for a religiously aggravated public order offense. But the man who tried to KILL HIM WITH A FUCKING KNIFE was charged with ABH, possession of a knife and BAILED. He’s literally free right now.

So no, I’m not surprised people don’t want to die for this country anymore.

  23. I would not fight for the UK; I would however fight *against* the UK – if foreign troops land on our shores I’m throwing my lot in with them

  24. I’m a millennial and I wouldn’t die for this country.
