RFK Jr. Is Already Taking Aim at Antidepressants

  1. From the article:

The government, he said, would “assess the prevalence of and threat posed by the prescription of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, antipsychotics, [and] mood stabilizers.”

  2. Didnt he say he wouldnt do this at one of his hearings?

    Like specifically this?

  3. This man wants to hurt so many people in so many different ways.  Normal serial killers *wish* they had this kind of reach.

  4. Lol what could go wrong destabilizing the mental health of swaths of the country during a period of general unease, political vitriol and economic instability?

Oh and so much for “mass shootings are a mental health problem” huh pubs?

  5. He’ll aim at deworming medicine next. Calling it genocide.

  6. He wants mentally ill people to freak out so they can cleanse them. Welcome back to 1935 folks

  7. God I hope he goes for ketamine. President Musk would fire him before end of business.

  8. He literally advocates for putting “addicts” (actual addicts of drugs, but also SSRIs and ADHD medication) in involuntary ~~slave~~*wellness* camps to harvest organic produce for him so they can “recover”.

Separated from society, no technology, no crime committed.

Half the country is on various psych meds; This isn’t about health and recovery.

His “healing” sets the scene for disappearing any dissenters to concentrate them in these forced labor camps “for their own good”…

Where have I heard this before?

  9. Reagan shut mental health facilities without much resistance. Big pharmaceuticals will not tolerate loss of revenues for SSRIs and SNRIs. They’re one of the biggest lobbies against marijuana legalization.

  10. Picked a bad time in our democracy to quit antidepressants…

  11. I’ve never taken as many anxiety meds as since those people got in office. Trump and his goons should have been banned by the FDA.

  12. Lol, ok, you take them away bud. Watch how much more unhinged and violent people become. I swear, I want off this damn ride.

  13. As someone who is on SSRIs, if you take them away from me you’ll be putting me through unnecessary suffering.

    This is really scary.

  14. It’s ok for president musk to be on ketamine all day though!!

  15. Welcome to the Department of Heroin and Human Suffering…

  16. People like Fetterman who take anti-depressants need to stop kissing Trump’s diapered ass and fucking stand against this administration’s medical quackery.

  17. >Kennedy said he planned to dedicate money generated from a sales tax on cannabis products to “creating wellness farms—drug rehabilitation farms, in rural areas all over this country.”

    >”[S]pend time as much time as they need—three or four years if they need it—to learn to get reparented, to reconnect with communities.” The farm residents would grow their own organic food because, he suggested, many of their underlying problems could be “food-related.”

Soooo the Republican plan is… hippie communes?

  18. America is completely under siege. It is so fucking stunning to watch this happen and 40+ percent of Americans nod their head and say “yes this is the right thing to do.”

  19. My wife’s aunt is on a whole suite of important medications after she had a mental break and tried to attack my wife and SIL with an axe because she thought they were part of a meth gang. They were 12 at the time. Luckily she is happy and stable now. Take away her meds and someone will get hurt.

  20. How in the fuck is it that every single medication I take are all medications that the federal government are trying to take shots at?

I love how that not only is my HRT medication at risk, but the only other medication that I take alongside it, fucking Wellbutrin, is also on the line.

These motherfuckers are literally salivating at taking away every single medication from me that keeps me from being a depressive sack of shit that stays in bed all day and thinks about suicide all day and helps me lead a healthy, productive life where I can actually be a normal person around others.

They’re actually insane if they think I’m the insane one.

  21. They make everything depressing and then get rid of the antidepressants

  22. RFK and his brain worm can take my serotonin when they pry it from my dead cold fingers

  23. Imagine all the vets in America that are on anti depressants-all of sudden unmedicated but still trained…and armed

  24. Going cold turkey from Effexor makes me suicidal.

Conversely it saved my life decades ago.

I guess making me quit it would get me away from this hot mess we’re in.

But he’s probably just grifting pharma companies. I’d expect no less from the likes of him. You can never have too much money, amirite?

    POS

  25. They actually made the brain worms guy the health czar

Like this shit really isn’t even funny anymore

  26. Historically, there’s been a pretty cut and dry way of handling the Kennedy family.

  27. “I mean, if you ban antidepressants, won’t the problem just… take care of itself?”

    — Caring Republicans, probably.

  28. Yes, yes. Take the thing that keeps people from living with a constant death wish while you make every other aspect of their lives a living hell.

This will have zero negative consequences that could possibly come back to bite the people creating, signing off on, and implementing these policies.

  29. This administration is trying to ruin as many lives as possible. We have literally some of the most ignorant dumb people in positions of power and the worst part is they think they know more than people who have spent years doing these jobs. So many lives will be lost.

  30. This is hilarious. A heroin addict telling depressed people they need to get off their meds because they’re addictive.

    Fucking clown.

  31. These people literally have no knowledge about what they’re asking for. You cannot and should not be forced to go cold turkey with these types of prescriptions. They would fuck up more than just your mood, they can make you dizzy very frequently and constantly nauseous if you were forced to stop.

  32. Without escitalopram, I will die, which, I suppose, is what he wants.

Within the first few weeks of starting my medication, I felt like I’d woken up from an endless nightmare. I felt somewhat human for the first time in my entire life (I was 21 at the time). The only thing that saved me was my boyfriend–now husband, as of yesterday–my psych. nurse, and the people at the crisis line who bent over backwards to make sure I was allowed into a clinic (a clinic which initially refused to take me, that the crisis line folks twisted the arm of to force them into accept me).

Hordes of doctors and nurses–for both physical and mental health–have worked to save my life multiple times–not to mention my husband’s day-in, day-out love for me. They’ve given me my life, and a good one too. RFK Jr. wants to destroy me and the blood (literally), sweat (literally), and tears (literally) everyone has spent to save me and give me a life worth living.

These people are the scum of the Earth. Rot in Hell.

  33. As someone who has seen firsthand the impact of antipsychotics and benzos on managing an acute manic episode or psychosis inpatient MULTIPLE times, limiting access to these is a horrible idea and will likely cause irreversible damage to the brains of many

  34. GOP: Mass shootings are a mental health issue

Also GOP: Less worsen the mental health crisis while we increase the unemployment rate and increase inflation.

  35. I’m just gonna say as someone with ADHD, if this fucker takes away my meds, I’m not sure how I’m going to function.

  36. I’m on a cocktail of them and if it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be where I am now, happy and able to function.

  37. Big Pharma is going to like a word.

I’m all for good diet and clean living. He should encourage that.

But if you, your therapist, and your doctor all agree that you need a medication, it shouldn’t be the government’s place to come in and tell you “NO” you’re not allowed to take it.

  38. Ever try and discontinue ssri therapy? Good luck with that

  39. No one wants me unmedicated 🙃 I wouldn’t FAFO regarding this.

  40. Anti-depressants keep millions of people with manageable issue of brain imbalances stable and productive and having healthy relationships with others and family. Making these not available or having stock quantity issues are dangerous. Not using them also requires tapering off. Stopping abruptly could have many side effects including temporary mental issues that may require medical or physical protection and could also make some people suicidal. Medical decisions about medications need to be made by doctors who are qualified to do so and not by political or personal beliefs or as a way to slash funds.
Between this and his stance on vaccines and the effects on child mortality and preventable illnesses, Mr. Kennedy may be facing numerous civil and legal lawsuits for child and elder abuse and manslaughter at the State levels. This isn’t going to end well and parents losing a child will take whatever measures are necessary to hold him accountable.

  41. Of all the awful cabinet nominees, this is the one I really hoped wouldn’t get confirmed. The one department that has a direct impact on our actual physical existence as humans, our health, and the biggest loon of all is in charge. I’m going to need my meds even more now!
