Poll shows Ukraine losing hope of military victory as Trump steps back from peacekeeping in Europe

   Ukrainian hopes for a military victory have evaporated as [Donald Trump opens negotiations](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/politics/2025/02/12/trump-and-putin-start-talks-to-end-ukraine-war/) with Vladimir Putin over the country’s future, new polling has revealed.

   Fewer than one in five Ukrainians (17 per cent) now believe a military solution will end the conflict in their country, while 80 per cent think a “diplomatic solution” is most likely.

   In the [opening months of the war](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2022/02/25/why-has-russia-invaded-ukraine-attack-war/), which began in February 2022, the same polling showed more than half of Ukrainians thought a military solution was most likely.

   Similarly, 77 percent of Ukrainians polled now say they would prefer for negotiations to begin with Russia. Just 17 percent think their country should continue fighting until Moscow’s military is defeated.

   A majority of Russians, 60 percent, also [want peace negotiations to begin](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2025/02/13/russia-celebrates-trump-putin-call-normalising-relations/), according to polling commissioned by Lord Ashcroft, a Conservative peer.

   The polling, conducted in late January, surveyed over 6,000 people across four countries, with views weighted to be representative of their wider populations.

   Writing for The Telegraph, Lord Ashcroft said: “After three years of brutal attritional war and the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives, Ukrainians are weary and optimism is harder to find. Fewer than a quarter say the defence of their country is progressing successfully, down from 85 per cent two years ago.”

2. And rather than seek to help their cause Trump has decided now is a great time to extort Ukraine and the EU. What a raging c&nt that man is.

3. Ukrainian needs to keep the fight up, Russia is so week it can not attack any other EU country.
   The plan to drain Russian military is working, seeing numbers of over 800,000 troops wounded, 10,000 tanks, and over 10,000 APC destroyed. Yes Ukraine is losing land to Russia but at a high cost to Russia.
   Ukraine has drained the equipment of Russia military, it doesn’t have enough air defense systems that Ukraine drones have become more efficient. During this time the technology for Ukraine drones have gotten better.

   I kinda want the US to back away from Europe, without US giving weapons and equipment to Ukraine it can not tell hoe to fight Russia. I feel that Europe has more than enough equipment to supply Ukraine.
