Just because really. Thought you nerds would appreciate it. The Medway is a not particularly long or exceptional river in Kent and East Sussex in the UK, and I happen to live next to it. Passed through a hamlet called Turners Hill and remembered that it's the source, so dragged my family to come and find the source!

  1. I live in one of the Medway towns. Never thought to find the source. Sounds like a pretty cool adventure… For Medway.

  2. Hey kids I know I said we’d go to Alton Towers but I’ve got something better to do!

  3. Now you just need to follow it all the way to the sea. Without leaving the water..

  4. I love seeing sources to big rivers, in my head it’s fantastic; animals dancing around it, choir singing, a rainbow above it. But in reality it’s always a crack between to rocks or a muddy puddle.

  5. Did you do it in a second hand car that was bought for under £1500 and modified for road trip purposes?

  6. I’ve lived near the river Itchen all my life and only went to the source a few years back in a village called Cheriton. It’s just a pond but ends up being a 30 mile long river than provides drinking water to a huge part of Hampshire. Quite impressive that such a small start turns into a significant contributor to sustaining life in the region.

The walk along the Itchen is worth doing too. Can comfortably be done in 2 days.

  7. Genuinely fabulous. I’ve always wanted to do this and have done it on maps loads.

  8. It was a very important shipping river during roman times and very useful for commandeering large ships during the French wars.

Also it was a route taken by invading hoards

  9. Is there a signpost to say its the source? Like, can you easily find it ?
