    Queen Isabella & Roger Mortimer invaded and deposed Edward II in 1326.

    Henry Tudor’s invasion in 1485 led to the Battle of Bosworth and the death of Richard III.

    Mary & William were the most recent to lead a successful invasion in 1688.

  19. Lol as a former Brit who lives in Canada, don’t worry about it, they won’t survive the insurgency we would inflict on them. They seem to forget our country is the same size as theirs, and even if they “only” had to hold the first 100miles north of their border, with their entire military deployed in Canada they would *still* have less than 2 soldiers per square mile.

    Honestly Trump has achieved something that no Canadian politician has ever achieved before: United the nation and made it fashionable to be patriotic. People forget that Canadians are petty and vindictive when pushed. It’s part of why I feel so at home here 🙂

  20. Let’s not forget how we prepared for the very real threat of Nazi invasion. We had 600 small bunkers manned by small groups of men who were trained and equipped for guerrilla warfare in the event of an invasion. It was so top secret that they faced ridicule and insults from their community because they apparently hadn’t joined the fight when needed.

Also a bit annoying that we have Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, but for… some reason… we just don’t want those as states in any combination. It’s some silly shit and super embarrassing that Trump is talking this way, but also kind of terrifying for people who aren’t rabid supporters of anarchocapitalist technofeudalism with impulses for global domination and a second go at empire building instead of quietly running the free world like normal. The world won’t be enough.

    There’s so many cases where impossing strength (American armed forces) is really just a mask behind which there can be poor leadership and terrible disorganization. Especially now while the new admin is gutting systems faster than they can understand the consequences.

    But man did we spend a lot of money on guns. I’m all for our military suffering defeats and being stripped. It feels frankly irresponsible if nothing else having all of these weapons just waiting to be misused. But it’s the loss of life that kills me.

    And that’s why I don’t share in the rest of the world’s ‘bring it on’ attitude towards our stupidity. This is absolutely a stupid display of wreckless greed. I pray you’re all right and that the propaganda fed to me during schooling winds up as just that. But I can’t shake the notion that there will be absolutely terrible losses on every shore if shit hits the fan like this.

    In the Napoleonic wars the crews of a couple of French ships invaded Fishguard in South Wales.

    The local men formed a militia to fight the French off and their women, in traditional Welsh dress, stood on the hilltop to watch their men fight.

    The French thought the women were British redcoats and surrendered.
