Have you got the half-term week off and wonder what you can do together with the kids from Monday 17 to Friday 21 February?
The weather is still unpredictable but we’ve got you covered with some suggestions for family fun to keep you busy every day of the week.
We’ve specifically highlighted workshops and activities in English (or multilingual) on our list but there are many in Luxembourgish, French and German on other days.
All week – 15 to 23 February
Carnival workshops at Robbescheier
Dress the kids in their favourite costumes and head north for a programme of outdoor activities and creative workshops. These include:
Making multi-coloured sweet rolls in the centre’s authentic bakery
Creating unique wooden masks with the help of a carpenter in the old sawmill
Modelling lifelike farm animals in the ceramic workshop
Weaving your own wool keychain as a souvenir of the day
Children can also feed the animals or take a carriage ride through the estate or learn how to care for horses. Activities are multilingual.
A full day from 10:20 to 16:30 costs €23 per person. A half day (either 9:30 to 12:00 or 14:00 to 16:30) costs €19 per person. You can include meals or even plan an overnight stay. Book here.
Monday 17 February
Stamp it! Workshop at Villa Vauban
Cows dancing in the trees or sheep walking on water? At this stamp workshop children can let their imagination run wild. It starts with an inspirational tour of the works in the permanent exhibition and then children paint their own landscape complete with stamp motifs of trees and sheep created by artist Jessica Frascht.
The workshop is free but adults must pay the entrance fee. You can register for a space at visites@2musees.vdl.lu
Tuesday 18 to Friday 21 February
Climbing initiation session at Echternach Youth Hostel
Children aged 10 to 14 who have always wanted to try climbing can get a taster at these three-hour courses to learn to conquer the climbing wall safely and learn the important basics of safety techniques.
No previous climbing experience is required, but children should wear comfortable sportswear and clean trainers.

Tuesday 18 to Friday 21 February
Legoprint at Kulturhuef in Grevenmacher
A multilingual activity, children can print a carnival image with Lego. It could be a clown or a mask, it’s up to each child. Afterwards you can visit the museum and there’s a café to buy lunch on site.
Workshops take place from 14:00 to 16:00 each day and cost €15 per child. You can book tickets here.
Tuesday 18 February
Tour for children with grandparents at MUDAM
Are your parents visiting and would they like a nice activity with their grandkids? This interactive tour takes in the gallery’s exhibitions and is suitable for children aged between six and 12.
It takes place from 15:00 to 15:45 in English but you must book a place by emailing visites@mudam.com.
Wednesday 19 February
Through the looking glass workshop at Casino Luxembourg
Children can join transdisciplinary artist and performer Valerie Reding for a playful and creative workshop to create unique characters using everyday materials and body paint. Children will explore stories and ways of moving and expressing themselves through imaginative play, with a collective performance for parents at the end.
The workshop is for 7–12-year-olds and runs from 9:30 until 16:30. Children must bring a picnic lunch and a snack. You can reserve a space by emailing klik@casino-luxembourg.lu and the price is €14 per child.
Thursday 20 February
Flag-tastic! At the Luxembourg City Museum
There are sessions running all week but Thursday’s is in English and starts at 14:00. Every country has a flag but what is its purpose apart from being displayed outside a town hall? If you could create a flag, what would it be like? Families are invited to the creative studio to draw, glue, cut and decorate a personal or family flag with exciting materials.
Thursday 20 February
Carnival taste adventure – School of Taste, Brandenburg
Young gourmets are invited to join this multilingual culinary workshop on the theme of Carnival. Between 14:00 and 16:00, children will prepare Carnival donuts and then taste them. All they need to bring is a food box to take their sweet treats home.
The cost is €10 per child and parents should register for a place at this website. The school is at 1B Haapstrooss in Brandenburg.
Thursday 20 February
Parent and child fizzy bath bombs workshop in Steinsel
Head to The Hummingbird in Steinsel for a workshop to discover the benefits of effervescent bath balls, where you can take home your bath bomb for a relaxing moment. The bath bombs use essential oils and the workshop takes place from 14:00 to 15:30, costing €35 for one parent and one child.
Thursday 20 February
First steps in illustration at Niederanven Kulturhaus
A short introduction to help children understand the principles of a captivating story with Olga Reiff, who will talk about the typical characteristics of a main character and show them how stereotypes work and how to avoid them (think here the blonde princess or the muscle man).
Children will then create in drawing or writing their main character in their own exciting story in the language of their choice. The workshop is in several languages including English and runs from 10:00 until 11:30, with more details and booking here.
Friday 21 February
Impress me! Workshop at Villa Vauban
Taking place all week but in English on this date, the workshop for children aged four or more takes place from 10:15 to 12:15. It starts with a visit to the temporary exhibition of artist Jean-Pierre Beckius to discover the many colours and different shades used by this Luxembourgish artist. Afterwards children will be invited to paint their own artwork in the impressionist style. You can reserve a spot by emailing visites@2musees.vdl.lu
Friday 21 February
Luxembourg in the Middle Ages – Luxembourg City Museum
A family tour in English suitable for children aged five or more, who can discover this fascinating period of history through models, charters, and other archeological objects. Go back in time to the 10th century to see the medieval city of Luxembourg, with its primitive castle.
The visit also goes outside to the archeological crypt on Rue de la Reine, which houses the remains of the medieval wall built in the 12th century. Reserve a spot for the tour which starts at 14:00 by emailing visites@2musees.vdl.lu.
