“Prince William, Kate and their children flew to the privately owned island on Thursday, days after Kensington Palace announced that the couple would not be at the star-studded ceremony at the Royal Festival Hall.”

“William, 42, attended the ceremony last year without Kate, but he has not attended in two consecutive years since becoming president in 2010.”

  1. It’s the DM so needs to be taken with a fistful of salt but if true then not cool. This is a big event and William as president should be there or step down and allow someone who can show up to take over the role (I freely admit I don’t know if it works that way but he should still be there).

  2. Good for them for prioritizing family time, especially after the year they had.

  3. The laziest couple and time to get off the dole. They just had a holiday 3 weeks ago ? And again for/ during the holidays ?

It’s embarrassing. If Kate wants to do fuck all I dont care but William is the heir.

  4. Just curious, have Will and Kate ever vacationed abroad with Charles and Camilla? I don’t mean going family properties.

  5. They don’t have to announce what she’s wearing when she doesn’t even turn up.

  6. Guys I think this whole “we are going to do more ‘behind the scenes’ stuff is going to backfire on them.

Because if they’re even passing on the flashy fun stuff that they didn’t have to be forced to do (like BAFTAs or sports games) what spectacle can they bring to an already slimmed down monarchy…?

  7. Good for them – I’m sure their children and other family members appreciate it. That’s worth all the criticism they’re receiving.

I was given to understand previous presidents don’t even attend as often as William did. He attended last year while his wife was dealing with cancer. Now that she’s well, they probably thought to make use of their vast resources to celebrate and be together as often as they can. I’d do the same thing. I’d rather skip a glamorous event and do a low-key engagement if it means being with my family.

  8. Now that meghan and Harry are gone, they can pretty much do what they want. While living off taxpayers’ money.

  9. I don’t understand why kids being on school break = absolutely no work of any kind from the Waleses. They could do a couple of engagements and miss basically no time with their kids. Why not have the kids go to some play dates and then spend a couple hours doing engagements? The kids go on break basically once a month, plus the summer and winter holidays so they’re basically taking at minimum a full week off once a month – not to mention all the days they aren’t working even when their kids are in school.

I sometimes poke around other royal blogs and it seems like even fans of the Waleses are getting fed up with this pattern. When you’re losing your fans’ support of something, you know you’re doing something wrong.

    Edit: a sentence and formatting

  10. It’s amazing how other parents go to work 8 to 10 hours a day while their kids are on break and these two can’t attend an event for a few hours where they have to socialize.

  11. Has everyone forgotten that Catherine has just got over cancer? I think a week in the sun is just what they all need.

  12. It was only after William became the prez that president was attending the awards ceremony annually. Previous Prez didn’t attend regularly. He already did an engagement with Bafta meeting young artist which was actually more meaningful than attending awards ceremony. I would have been pissed if went on holiday without doing anything for Baftas
