  1. The biggest one in Romania is being upgraded as we speak. 🤩

  2. I’d like it to keep it that way until we get our shit together.

  3. Don’t forget Thule Air Base, the one they built secretly in Greenland without asking the locals or Denmark. They even experimented (“Project Iceworm”) with using nuclear reactors to melt tunnels deep into the ice for underground structures. It turns out the ice shifts around and destroys your secret underground ice bunker after a few years, and they gave up on that. At least, that’s the official line, from when the project was partially declassified, 30 years later. Can you even blame the conspiracy theorists?

  4. I thought Reddit already said they’ve betrayed & abandoned us ?

  5. Well I’m just going to go on the very loose end agree with that Norwegian guy, the bases need to stay until you guys get all your militaries strengthened and have a Euro Defense League. I mean I know NATO exists so that’s something.

Also I just want to say I don’t even support my country’s own administration right now (Trumps) I fully believe that hopefully Europe and the U.S. can be pals geopolitically again in the future

  6. “This list is incomplete. You can help by expanding it.”

  7. Poland and the Baltics were right about Russia and Europe owes it to recognize that.

But It was France that was right about the US and that deserves acknowledgement too.

  8. It’s a bit of a manipulation though, there are no “permanent” US bases west of Germany.

  9. De Gaulle: “I fucking told you this would happen…. ”

  10. Looks like r/europe has decided the US is the enemy now, amazing

  11. Think the welcome is now overstayed. They are not inclined to support Europe, so perhaps time for eviction.

  12. There are no US military bases in Estonia. There is one NATO airbase and one army base and neither of them is hosting US troops. It is mostly the Brits and the airbase is being used by different countries on rotation for the Baltic Air Policing mission.

  13. Shannon Airport in Ireland may as well be US also

  14. Holy shit, I had no idea France had no US military bases, I’ve just realzied it.

My respect for them has doubled just because of those detail. And people in my own country talk about sovereigntism, blame France for half of our failures and so on and so forth. Meanwhile, pur political spectrum is divided between russian bootlickers and american bootlickers

  15. What is an “US base”? Looks more like Russian propaganda than factual representation of actual US infrastructure abroad.

There isn’t even real US presence in some of the marked countries. E.g. international forces in Estonia are led by UK, in Lithuania by DE, with air policing done mostly by European countries from local airfields.

  16. Latvia may not have “US bases” but it definitely has US troops there.

  17. I’ll be frank, I’ll fucking take having a US base over not having it.

  18. NO!! This map is totally wrong as usual. There is no US military base in Hungary.

  19. This map is not entirely correct. There is no permanent military US base in Bosnia. They did have a base near Tuzla in years after the war, but it has since been handed over to the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

  20. This shows once again the leadership that France has in terms of EU sovereignty.

  21. We must end this and send those fuckers to their shitty country.

  22. Well it was understandable when USA was reliable ally and when there was no doubt they would authorized the use of nuke in the of a russian attack. But now, who could be sure Trump would accept that if Russia attack Estonia for instance ? No one. So the very presence of all these bases is actually nonsense.

  23. There is no USA military base in Iceland anymore, it was shut down decades ago. Only military presence is from NATO air unit that do rotations there(currently it’s Finland i believe).

  24. And watch local economies collapse when we leave. Good riddance, Europe is a joke and can’t defend themselves

  25. These bases are only here because the US heavily profits from the presence. It’s time to end the freeloading. Yanks need to pay their fair share if they wanna stay in Europe.

  26. This is what passes me off. This is what America wanted. Now they’re bitching that they have to pay for this and they want europe to pay.
This hasn’t been Americam foreign policy for the last 80 years. But all of a sudden, now they don’t want to be paying for this foreign policy.
And somehow it’s Europe that’s the problem?

  27. This is what happens when u outsource ur defense. Need to crank up defense spend ASAP.

  28. As a US service member who has been stationed in Europe and am about to move back there, I understand the frustration with current US politics. There are many of us who do. Please don’t paint us all with such a broad brush. So many of us feel deeply connected to our Allies and see us all as serving a common purpose, defending Democracy, in Europe and around the world. Our government, or population, DOES NOT always get it right, but know that I and many others will be there alongside our Allies to fight against whatever comes.

I apologize on behalf of the ~50% of us who have less than half a brain.

  29. Most of these are just shared NATO bases, they are not really US bases
