  1. 0.02% of revenue and they’re complaining about the cost? Fuck off. Break up these monopolies and start banning corrupt US companies from operating in the UK. We don’t need them, they are not as important as they think they are. They have no real value.

  2. Twitter can do us all a favour and block being accessed in UK

  3. If X leaves the globe it’ll being doing everyone a favour

  4. I think he’s right. The online safety bill is horrific. I don’t understand how the government hopes to get growth when it increases taxes and has things like this bill.

The funny thing is people are so blinded by who says it they don’t seem able to consider the validity of it or just take against it out of.principle.

  5. They need the European market because without it the only remaining significant ‘Western’ market is the USA itself. Europe adds legitamacy on one or more fronts and they know it.

  6. Tbf I’ve been looking at it, the bureaucracy of adhering to it is insane. The short briefing is 80 pgs the long ones like 400 or something mad. The big companies have teams to navigate it but for a small company wadding though it is a lot of work but me and my friend are still managing. Shouldnt be more than a page.

  7. Tech will give domestic entrepreneurs an opportunity to build ethical tech businesses, warn Musk and Google

  8. An opportunity to grow indigenous tech then, that respect privacy and safety of its users. The challenge is yours, Britain.

  9. No, it won’t. It can’t, legally speaking.

Most these tech companies are US based and thus subject to US law. Ebay vs. Newmark is a case that effectively enshrined in law the legal obligation for companies to maximise shareholder profits. If they can still make a profit in the UK, they are obligated to stay. To do anything else would reduce shareholder profits needlessly.

  10. Lol sure, these guys are going to turn down more money on “principle”.

  11. It’s funny that Musk thinks tech begins and ends with social media and search engines. As none of these actually pay taxes in the UK I am not sure we will miss them much.

  12. Who is everyone laser focussed on X regarding this and Musk?

The bill has been campaigned for from the right of British politics for years with the Telegraph at the forefront.

It will affect all social media including Reddit as it will need to introduce age verification checks.

  13. Children are dying because of the lack of safeguards.

But they need more money when they are already wealthy enough.

The sad truth is these so-called tech giants are just pushing other countries to develop their own tech, which they are more than capable of doing.

What makes me laugh is that china, with their own issues they bring to the table, are becoming a more likely trade partner for the majority of the developed world than the US, and the US are the ones trying to seize power from china

  14. Bye, don’t let the door smack you on the arse on the way out. I think we will benefit from having less exposure to these leeches.

I don’t like what is being proposed, but I these scumbags can bog off.

  15. Happily call this bluff with Google’s new building in King’s Cross

  16. Is this the same Elon who has been acting like a spoilt toddler since he wasn’t invited to be part of the UK’s tech expansion/funding programs ? I mean even if you think it was wrong to not invite the man/company it still seems strange that he is now threatening to leave somewhere he was gutted to not be invited too in the 1st place lol
