LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — On Sunday, the Nevada Consular Corps hosted a special celebration marking the Independence Day of the Republic of Lithuania and the appointment of Sue Lowden as Honorary Vice Consul.

Lowden, a prominent business leader and philanthropist, has been a steadfast advocate for international relations and cultural exchange.

When asked about Lithuania, she says, “It’s been a long struggle throughout the centuries when Russia ruled. For 35 years, we’ve been independent, and it’s a day to celebrate.”

Her grandparents arrived in the United States in 1895.

Lowden says they would be very proud that she is living the American dream.

Her new role underscores her dedication to strengthening ties between Nevada and Lithuania.

She says that her role as consul is to help people with issues like losing a passport or more serious issues like human trafficking.

The event featured remarks from distinguished guests, including Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley.

Mayor Berkley says she was delighted to attend the event and that she spent time in Lithuania and says the country and people were beautiful.

The mayor goes on to say, “I admire Lithuania and the Diaspora. You are all here as Americans with Lithuanian backgrounds and heritage with only enhances the United States of America.”

Attendees enjoyed a gourmet lunch and live entertainment by Nicole Zuraitis, a GRAMMY Award-winning jazz singer-songwriter, pianist, and arranger.

Zuraitis is celebrated as one of jazz’s most exciting voices.

She won the 2024 Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album and continues to captivate audiences with her storytelling and soaring vocals.

The celebration highlighted the importance of cultural diplomacy and the role of the Nevada Consular Corps in promoting international partnerships.
