Forgive me if I seem arrogant. I'm posting this to encourage a discussion and learn from criticism. I'm not claiming to be right about all I say, but I find this topic interesting and would like to learn more.
This is what I think could be the case in Ukraine:
The real priority of Russia's war campaign is not to take all of Ukraine, but that's a necessary smokescreen. Putin would do that if it was easy, but aiming to annex all of Ukraine would require a different strategy. Russia has made incursions all along their border with Ukraine, but the territory they put most of their resources into keeping is in the East.
In the end, during negotiations, both sides will have to make concessions. No one side can get everything they want. A large number of individuals have suffered at the expense of Russia, and Russians have made sacrifices as well. So much has been lost by both countries that it would be unwise not to honor losses on both sides.
Putin publicly aims to annex all of Ukraine so that the world can stop him. If he makes it clear that his goal is to annex the East in this campaign, he will receive less than he wants at the negotiating table.
The priority of Russia has been to secure Crimea, gain access to the Dnipro River, take total control of the Azov sea and gain coastal territory on the black sea, which will open trade routes and benefit Russia in future conflicts.
The strategy of the West is to make Russia's job as hard as possible and teach the world a lesson. The West needs Ukraine to stand its ground on the battlefield and prevent an easy invasion and annexation of its territory. It would embolden NATO's enemies. NATO wants to protect itself with deterrence. The war is a chance for both sides to estimate their enemies' strengths and capabilities.
New technology is making war more costly. Drones are proving very effective. Militaries around the world are studying the war to predict how drones and technology will shape the battlefield in the future. China and the US are not escalating the conflict by introducing state of the art technology that they have. China is not officially involved in Ukraine, but North Korea is their trade partner and ally as well as well as a surrogate force they have. China is taking the chance to see the strength of their ally as well as test risky tactics on expendable, foreign soldiers.

Russia wants the whole Ukraine. They dont want a neighbour country with a lot of weapons and soldiers who can attack them anytime to reclaim their territory. They want all of it. This is the way to really make the soldiers free to patrol the border against an Ukraine army so that more nations can be captured.
Why should they stop? They are winning and the USA is not interested in Europe.
Russia has suffered? Fuck Russia , they deserve a lot more suffering after the mass torture, rape and murder they committed on their neighbor
The purpose of the war in Ukraine is for Putler to maintain control over Ruzzia. Ukraine isn’t the point.
> The real priority of Russia’s war campaign is not to take all of Ukraine, but that’s a necessary smokescreen.
Wrong. Russia failing at their original goal of taking all of Ukraine does not mean it wasn’t the original goal.
> Putin would do that if it was easy, but aiming to annex all of Ukraine would require a different strategy.
Putin deployed elite paratroopers in Kyiv on day one. It was the strategy.
> Russia has made incursions all along their border with Ukraine, but the territory they put most of their resources into keeping is in the East.
That’s because that’s the territory they managed to keep. They’re pouring in resources into the territories they managed to keep. It has nothing to do with them wanting to keep south over the north.
> In the end, during negotiations, both sides will have to make concessions. No one side can get everything they want.
Says who?
> A large number of individuals have suffered at the expense of Russia, and Russians have made sacrifices as well.
What exactly have Russians sacrificed?
> So much has been lost by both countries that it would be unwise not to honor losses on both sides.
Why should anyone honor the losses of the Invading force?
> Putin publicly aims to annex all of Ukraine so that the world can stop him. If he makes it clear that his goal is to annex the East in this campaign, he will receive less than he wants at the negotiating table.
Wrong again. Putin wants all of Ukraine. Russians don’t believe that Ukrainians is a nation that exists, they thin they’re confused Russians that talk funny. Source: Russian is my first language.
> The priority of Russia has been to secure Crimea, gain access to the Dnipro River, take total control of the Azov sea and gain coastal territory on the black sea, which will open trade routes and benefit Russia in future conflicts.
Nope. Priority of Russia has been to take out Ukrainian government. They failed. Now they’re holding on to whatever they can. You’re giving more agency to Russia’s behavior than they deserve. Russia was not expecting the pushback they got, and they have been reactign ever since. If the western partners had not dragged their feet and gave Ukraine all it asked for in 2022 this war would have been over in fall of 2023.
> The strategy of the West is to make Russia’s job as hard as possible and teach the world a lesson.
Nope. The strategy of the west is to pretend like nothing happened, becuase they don’t want to deal with the implications of a Russia that has lost a war its neighbor.
> The West needs Ukraine to stand its ground on the battlefield and prevent an easy invasion and annexation of its territory.
Lol, if that’s what the west needs, then the west has failed spectacularly.
> It would embolden NATO’s enemies. NATO wants to protect itself with deterrence.
NATO has one enemy – Russia. And NATO is not doing enough to stop Russia. (China isn’t an enemy of NATO, as much as it is an enemy of USA)
> The war is a chance for both sides to estimate their enemies’ strengths and capabilities.
This war is Ukraine fighting with Russia with the help of North Korean soldiers. Nobody else is involved.
> New technology is making war more costly. Drones are proving very effective.
Drones are actually chaper than old technology. New technology is making the war cheaper, and less expensive.
> Militaries around the world are studying the war to predict how drones and technology will shape the battlefield in the future.
Naturally.
> China and the US are not escalating the conflict by introducing state of the art technology that they have.
State of the art is being developed on the battlefield. Its drones.
> China is not officially involved in Ukraine, but North Korea is their trade partner and ally as well as well as a surrogate force they have. China is taking the chance to see the strength of their ally as well as test risky tactics on expendable, foreign soldiers.
There are numerous reports of China has been selling stuff to Russia and helping it evade sanctions.
Do you also “honor’ German Nazis from the 1940s, they suffered too in the war they started?
I’m a Trump voter but any illegal gains Putin gets to keep will mean trouble in the future. Will just show him nobody will sacrifice to stop any future invasions.
