Submission Statement: Trump’s tariff war aimed to protect American industries by imposing taxes on imports, but it ended up causing more harm than good. Higher tariffs led to increased costs for businesses and consumers, job losses in some sectors, and economic uncertainty. While some industries benefited, the overall impact on the U.S. economy was negative, with slower growth and higher prices.
It actually makes the US weaker.
1. Every country now has China and India on speed dial.
2. Erodes trust in the US brand.
3. Creates instability and business climate uncertainty.
4. Exacerbates inflation.
5. Tariff costs get passed to US consumer.
It certainly has lot of cons but there are pros too.
I am personally against them to this degree but I see lot being intellectually dishonest with only listing the cons and acting like there can never be any pros from this whatsoever.
I didn’t hear a peep when US put 25% tariffs on China in Trump’s first term (biggest trading partner at the time) – and US economy has only surged since then while China’s have entered stagnation
It’s alienating US allies. Suddenly the US will look around and none of its friends will be there anymore.
So why are all these countries with tariffs on US exports so stupid?
The same was said when tariffs and trade wars were started years ago, many of the same arguments here were repeatsd back than.
So, why not skip to the end result? America’s trade deficit increased and never truly recovered, it’s “investment deal” with China was not really followed, the EU didn’t to quote them “sign a deal with a gun against their head”, and the one “win” which was a deal with Mexico and Canada was ripped up.
Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it, right?
