US, Russia and China are states with centralised apparatus. Europe is a continent with bunch of states and EU is loose confederation of some European states. Thats first problem. Second one is identity. All Americans see themselves as American. Ethnic Russians and Hans are dominating Russia and China. Here, in Europe, most people see themselves as Poles, Spaniards, Flemings, Sami, Romani etc. and not as Europeans. The fact that European Union is top contender in economy and military is feat of itself.

Europe needs a lot of reforms as it’s not competitive in many areas.
1) beef up defense. This is easier sd than done as it will take years to happen. It’s more than buying equipment as u also need defense areas Europe is poor at: training, drone, cyber, intelligence (spying), satellite. That sd, I don’t c the drastic increase in spending being proposed that Europe needs. UK is only slightly increasing.
2) reduce regulations. GDP of EU & US was same in 2009, now US’s is 2x EU’s. Entrepreneurs wanna go to Asia or US, not EU. Too hard to start & run businesses in Europe. It’s painfully backward on developing its mega IT companies.
3) reduce taxation. Putting more money in people’s pockets will increase biz activity as the reward for starting a biz or working more productively is rewarded.
4) political reforms. Now small pro-Putin countries can wreck any positive initiatives in the EU.
It’s gonna b a painful few decades.
I think EU sorta screwed her destiny by toying with others in the past few centuries. Overcoming Adversity is One’s greatest way to be better and you don’t get that from powers that siphoned others to survive
