Sorry for the shit photo quality, but i’m trying to figure out what router’s supposed to connect here (or if its even a cable for internet in the first place). It’s either glasfaser or kable (definitely not dsl) It’s a neubau so the entire wohnung doesnt have any DSL steckdose. It only has the multimedia steckdose that has internet/fernseher/radio connection and an ethernet port for every room. But since this box just has this cable, i wanted to know what it is and if this is an internet cable thanks in advance!

  1. I think it’s a coax cable. It’s used for cable TV/internet and satellite TV. So probably the first option.

  2. It could be a Koaxialkabel, so it’d “Kabel”.

But please just ask your provider ..

  3. coaxial

can be cable TV, internet, or both. Difficult to say until you plug it in. Given where it is though, it’s difficult it’s TV since it’d be tough to put a TV there 🙂

In any case, you’d need a connector on it since this is just the raw cable. It might be difficult to put the connector if you’ve never dealt with coax cables

  4. It is a coaxial cable used for cable TV and Internet. If it is connected you can get a pretty decent internet connection. Your best bet will be vodafone since they bought most cable-internet providers (like Kabel BW and unitymedia). They provide our connection via cable and it’s good. 5. This is probably coax for cable TV and Internet.

Also do not rule out DSL: The RJ45 ethernet port labeled “Zul” (for Zulauf -> Inflow, as in this is where it comes into your flat) can be both fiber (with the actual fiber terminating somewehre in the building and then using ethernet to yout flat) or DSL. DSL can also use RJ45 jacks you’d usually use for ethernet.

  6. I such a such a coax cable for internet connection. You need a special WiFi router with a coax jack

  7. That is coaxial cable, either RG6 (thicker) or RG59 (if thinner). Your local hardware store or big box home improvement store should have crimp style connectors and prep tools.

  8. Thank you all for the help!!! Much appreciated ❤️❤️❤️ you guys are 1000

  9. Oh you’re fucked. It’s a coax cable which can deliver DOCSIS 3.1, and which Vodafone has rolled out, but they don’t sell a 10GBit/s full duplex option yet. There are probably also no affordable 10GBit/s FDX modems available, so for now you’re stuck with 1GBit/s 😢.

If you’re okay with gigabit speed, the Fritzbox which is typically supplied by Vodafone will do nicely. If you order a business option with a fixed IP address it can also work in bridge mode (a /30 subnet for one IP address on one LAN port, a dynamic IP address on another LAN port, but you’re still limited to 1GBit/s. Or maybe 1.1GBit/s, if you load balance over two 1GB LAN ports; Vodafone tends to overprovision business contracts a bit.
