  5. The thing is I’m not even annoyed that he got help from the govt. 

    Our country since the great depression is a combo of socialism and capitalism. Here’s the thing: it’s made us so, so rich as a nation. Of course individual families less so, and I want that to change. But no one can deny the wealth and achievement we have had since the great depression. It’s unlike anything we’ve seen ever. 

    I don’t begrudge musk. I’m fine with the government giving private businesses money to help them make great leaps. I think it’s awesome! 

    But we need to recognize the governments role in that. If you look at the Gilded Age for example, yes there’s a lot that went wrong. But we did industrialize, which helped us win the world wars. And that was done through a combo of government and private business. 

    To me it’s very obvious that a combo of government and business is the best approach. And Elon is accepting tax dollars but refusing to acknowledge that other agencies and other businesses benefit from that too. The people of Africa benefit from us sending foreign aid, and that in turn makes the world more peaceful, which enables free trade, which enriches us. 

    We have forgotten how we became the most powerful country in the world. I’m happy that our country has this cross pollination of socialism and capitalism. It sent a poor boy from a broken family to college and he became a damn good teacher. The investment worked. 

    What bothers me is not government helping out entrepreneurs. It’s that they then forget where they came from and who helped them.

Look at your pay stub. Look at how much you pay each paycheck on SS. You will never see that money and it won’t go to veterans and seniors and then into the economy either it will disappear into vaults of the worlds greediest man.
