  1. That’s very narrow, you’d be worried the wind would blow it over.

  2. Something seriously wrong with either this story or the picture. It’s next to a block which is at least 7 to 8 floors, yet looks 3 times the height. More like 30 floors ? That’s what the markings on the block suggest !!! 30 floors is an abominations. Croydon here we come

  3. *”NIMBYS assemble”*

There must be a wild group chat right now, finding a way to block this.

  4. Funny how they exclusively use the large tower in photos when it is NOT the tower that was granted lol. It’s one of the smaller ones.

  5. Great stuff, hope its the start of more of these much taller buildings making there way towards the city centre.

  6. They’re gonna cost around a half million an apartment. Jesus that’s rough

  7. We won’t get this right. It’ll probably go to ruin in 20 years.

  8. There’s a family of local badgers don’t won’t procreate if the apartment block is higher than 6 stories. It’ll affect their sleep cycle 🥺🥺

  9. Where’s Pat Kenny and his badgers when you need him?

  10. Now that’s at LEAST ten stories higher than our Historic, Immutable Skyline allows. /s

  11. This is so unexpected it feels like an April Fools. But I’m sure the objections are being prepared as I write this

  12. 13 storeys!? Must be one of the biggest buildings in the world, Jesus will they ever be stopped!

  13. > “Secretary of the association, Vikki Brennan, told the council that the apartment blocks “will not enhance our local community”.

Ah okay leave the site empty so

  14. Thats Dublin ruined for me. I like to get the train up from the midlands once a year to do a bit a shopping. If that’s the first thing I see when I get off the train I might just stay at home.

I’d usually spend at least €70 between food and presents so thats money Dublin won’t see again. Hope it’s worth it.

  15. But how is that going to impact Dublin’s world class skyline?

  16. but won’t this block the view of the derelict georgian terraces 2km downtown? how could dcc do this to our rich architectural history….

  17. >Over 30 apartments in that scheme will be sold as social housing to the city council, at around €392,000 per unit.

Jesus that seems a bit steep?

  18. This actually isn’t ideal. The average cost of one apartment will be more than €450,000. I’m not sure how this is a good thing

  19. Guarantee you it gets objected to in the next day in an bord pleanala or some shite

  20. Could we just not build one really really reaaaaaly tall building and put us all into it?

  21. ffs propaganda and drama once more. 13 stories is reasonable, it’s not twice the size like in the photo example.

  22. This isn’t news. This whole development, including the 28-storey tower and two other blocks, was granted about three or four years ago. There has been no movement on the site.

There have been a couple of minor “amendment* applications, to switch some office space to residential and minor facade redesigns. Thats what this was. No new buildings were granted here.

  23. Its good that more housing is being built. But, why is Ireland so obsessed with bland modern architecture? Its not even as interesting as brutalism.

This picture from the article is a great insight into the state of Ireland’s current planning/proprety system. Planning permission granted for an enormous development.

The dogs on the street know that’s it not going to be built instead it will spend 5 years running through the courts before a massively reduced development is finally built.

All the while there’s 5 abandoned properties in the foreground that won’t be developed or used at all!
