  1. While the Rheinmetall chief is obviously using this article as an opportunity to urge defense spending, landing his company countless juicy defense contracts, he’s also stating the obvious. The Europeans got utterly played for fools and now the winners, the US and Russia [are consuming whatever is left of Ukraine](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2025/02/17/revealed-trump-confidential-plan-ukraine-stranglehold/).

    I’d generally be more sympathetic, but if this isn’t exactly what the Scorpion and the Frog fable was about, I don’t know what is.

  3. The fact that there aren’t any notes from the Paris meeting would suggest that europe has their own idea how this should be solved. We already know that russia is not able to fully enforce their will militarily and unless US is planning boots on the ground, it doesn’t really matter much what US thinks solution here should be.

  4. If Europe (Germany) had been a bit more diplomatic with Ukraine in 2013, they could have had a share in the wealth of minerals Russia will now unearth in the east. Instead, they let those old colonial sentiments get the better of them and now get nothing. It seems they have learned absolutely nothing from the last hundred years.
