I’m rapidly pushing 40 and trying to negotiate the modern world of McDonalds ordering.

As far as I can remember, the “filet-o-fish” has existed longer than I have, yet I’ve genuinely never seen one in the flesh.

If this is you, this is a safe space, we’re all grown ups, but channelling my inner Cilla Black:

“What’s ya name and where d’ya come from”

Bonus points for photo evidence to prove this isn’t just fishy rouse that that I’ve been fooled by for 39 years and some days

  1. I remember my friends from Islamic backgrounds/their families eating Filet-O-Fish, as it was one of the few notably halal items on there

  2. I like them, usually because they don’t have any ready so there always made fresh

  3. It’s always been good a fish finger roll with a lovely soft bun and tartar sauce I don’t understand the hate for it but the same people who hate on it like fish fingers for tea.

  4. A Muslim colleague of mine told me it’s pretty much the only thing on the McDonalds’ menu they are allowed to eat. So I’m guessing it’s our Islamic Community that plays a big part.

  5. I’ve only ever got it when it went down to 99p. Its basic. But I like the bun. Add some mayo, lettuce and onion and it’s very nice ngl. I wouldn’t pay full whack tho, wrap of the day is better for that money

  6. It’s halal, and the beef/chicken products are not, so it is (or at least was) one of their best selling menu items.

  7. My senior mother loves this sandwich, I swear it’s all she ever orders from Maccy D’s.

  8. I’m pescatarian so eat the filet ofish. Some places in France sell double stacked fillets they’re so nice.

I think the fillet o fish started when some Christian communities in USA wouldn’t eat meat on a certain day.

  9. I feel like the fillet o fish is gonna be the new Guinness, simply because I’ve seen it mentioned on social media twice today.

    I might try one…

  10. They’re damn good, but overpriced. I wish they’d make a bigger one!

  11. “I don’t like this so I can’t fathom its existence or that other people like something I don’t” is a very boring internet take….

  12. Catholics don’t eat meat on Fridays. I do believe that’s why it was originally put on the menu.

  13. I occasionally eat fish, it’s not a bad burger. Tiny though 3 good bites and its gone.

  14. It’s fish, cheese and tartare sauce. Apart from the price, what’s not to like?

  15. I buy them. Everyone at work laughs at me for it. I love em.

  16. Pretty sure most people who shit on the fillet o fish haven’t actually tried it.

  17. When pescetarian a few years back, works for me. Probably order it more than the McPlant.

  18. I grew up Muslim so it was pretty much the only thing I could eat from McDonald’s. After growing to love it, it’s still my favourite item on the menu even though I eat everything else now. It’s also one of the few items that you can guarantee will be fresh no matter what because barely anyone else is ordering them.

  19. Hi. My name is u/HMS_Northumberland, and I have a Fillet-O-Fish problem.

  20. mcdonalds meat based burgers have got worse down the years to the point where they are inedible, dry and nasty, the taste like. The machines they use overcook them and dry them out, bring back the old school grills and buy better meat you modernist wankers.

anyway it’s just a fish finger sandwich, I order them and chicken nuggets on the rare occasions I buy McDonalds

  21. Fucking love them! Steamed bun is the tits – best bread they do

  22. I’m Jewish and wasn’t allowed to eat non-kosher meat as a kid so a trip to Maccy Ds meant a filet o fish. They’re usually cooked to order so are served crispy and hot. The tartare sauce, which usually drips out a bit, is excellent to dip chips into.

I still order them to this day, even though I haven’t stuck to a kosher diet in years. I’m a staunch fan of the filet o fish!

  23. Oh I do love a filet o fish. Haven’t had one in years but you best believe it’ll be my next order. Always ask for the bun to be toasted instead of steamed, much nicer!

  24. Best burger they do. I cant tell if its due to general quality or because no cunt other then me orders them so they’re always fresh AF
