Would be nice to have a free online Spanish learning platform financed by the EU given how widespread the interest is
Macron won’t be happy about it.
Because they already know English?
I presume/hope they already know English. I just want to be able to communicate, I don’t care if it’s Klingon.
Portugal burning Spain…
In Romania we have firms that will pay you even 5x the normal salary if you occupy the same job but also know German, so… I guess that’s why.
It’s always *Spanish or vanish*
Hahaha… As someone who has taught German in the past, I can say that everybody who answered “German” is wrong. They actually don’t want to learn German, they just don’t know it yet.
Oh Cyprus…
Can confirm, Spaniard here learning German
As Lithuanian, I’ve chosen to learn French language as 3rd language since I was quite passionate about French culture and language itself. Russian was my 2nd language, but I didn’t liked the language and when time went on, I’ve forgotten all about it.
Czechia: “None”
Europe: “Czechia come on!”
Czechia: (sigh) “If I have to…dunno…maybe…french?”
Weird, when I was in school, almost everyone were taking either French or German even though Spanish was an option (at least in years 10-12). This was a really long time ago though.
In France it’s not because we know it, it’s because it’s easiest than any other one, the second l is german, not because it’s easy, but because it’s elitist.
*Sad Russian trombone*
Another way to read this: “What is the biggest language that you didn’t learn yet?”
Yea Spanish and Chinese are the future, with Arabic
To put it into context, majority of Europeans are learning English already, the question asks which new language not which foreign language they want to learn. Also a lot of eastern Europeans are learning German as a second language already as well. And most of western European countries teach French as the second foreign language after English. So imho that’s the reason for the prevalence of the Spanish.
Italians be like: “Well yeah, y’all will never pronounce and understand Latin like us”
To be fair. Isn’t basically every school offering German, French and Spanish and thats it?
There seems to be a mistake. For Austrians top answer should also be german.
In Italy, aside of the usual English, French German and Spanish, some kids seem very interested in Chinese (mandarin), Japanese or Russian.
This doesnt mean language Most people want to learn btw. In the Netherlands Most people know English German and French so the new language they want to learn most is Spanish
Ukrainian kids are studying English like crazy. Some also German, Polish or Czech to continue education there.
I blame Narcos. Made Spanish sound so sexy and cool.
Scots Gaelic for me thankyou
The ”none” for Finns is frankly understandable…we have obligatory Finnish, Swedish and English AND more if you want in the school curriculum. Many feel it’s quite enough as it is.
Que viva el español carajo!
Si
Get ready, Germany!
Hungarians , Czechs and Finns: Nah.
My Dutch father used to say:
What’s someone who speaks 3 languages?: trilingual
What’s someone who speaks 2 languages?: bilingual
What’s someone who speaks 1 language?:
American.
😆😆
Noone want’s to learn Polish? 😭
Its funny how Austria likes to learn Spanish over Italian altough Italy is a direct neighbor.
Keyword being new. Atleast here in Portugal we already have students being taught French, Spanish and English in schools so it makes sense that German would be the next step aside from probably Italian.
Just one curiosity from me: I see this kind of stuff everyday, with statistics about what Europeans want or say or think, and yet, I don’t remember ever being invited to fill out a form with such questions. Where do they find people for this? How can I join? Is there some group where they get questions like these everyday? Because I want to join
… Why so many people seems annoyed by this? What is wrong with people wanting to learn one of the most spoken languages in the world?
The EU != Europe.
Why is Spanish such a popular language (to learn) in Europe?
I think spanish say german bc english and french are not “new” at all. French is common in highschool and english mandatory.
Nobody wants to learn Italian? That’s sad.
As a German I would like to learn Italian.
What??German?? Why?? With complicated die, der, dem, das and nothing sexy about the rough language….Ich bin gerade sprachlos
