Which new language would young Europeans like to learn?

  1. I presume/hope they already know English. I just want to be able to communicate, I don’t care if it’s Klingon.

  2. In Romania we have firms that will pay you even 5x the normal salary if you occupy the same job but also know German, so… I guess that’s why.

  3. Hahaha… As someone who has taught German in the past, I can say that everybody who answered “German” is wrong. They actually don’t want to learn German, they just don’t know it yet.

  4. As Lithuanian, I’ve chosen to learn French language as 3rd language since I was quite passionate about French culture and language itself. Russian was my 2nd language, but I didn’t liked the language and when time went on, I’ve forgotten all about it.

  5. Czechia: “None”

    Europe: “Czechia come on!”

Czechia: (sigh) “If I have to…dunno…maybe…french?”

  6. Weird, when I was in school, almost everyone were taking either French or German even though Spanish was an option (at least in years 10-12). This was a really long time ago though.

  7. In France it’s not because we know it, it’s because it’s easiest than any other one, the second l is german, not because it’s easy, but because it’s elitist.

  8. To put it into context, majority of Europeans are learning English already, the question asks which new language not which foreign language they want to learn. Also a lot of eastern Europeans are learning German as a second language already as well. And most of western European countries teach French as the second foreign language after English. So imho that’s the reason for the prevalence of the Spanish.

  9. This doesnt mean language Most people want to learn btw. In the Netherlands Most people know English German and French so the new language they want to learn most is Spanish

  10. The ”none” for Finns is frankly understandable…we have obligatory Finnish, Swedish and English AND more if you want in the school curriculum. Many feel it’s quite enough as it is.

  11. My Dutch father used to say:
What’s someone who speaks 3 languages?: trilingual

What’s someone who speaks 2 languages?: bilingual

What’s someone who speaks 1 language?:
    American.
    😆😆

  12. Keyword being new. Atleast here in Portugal we already have students being taught French, Spanish and English in schools so it makes sense that German would be the next step aside from probably Italian.

  13. Just one curiosity from me: I see this kind of stuff everyday, with statistics about what Europeans want or say or think, and yet, I don’t remember ever being invited to fill out a form with such questions. Where do they find people for this? How can I join? Is there some group where they get questions like these everyday? Because I want to join

  14. I think spanish say german bc english and french are not “new” at all. French is common in highschool and english mandatory.

  15. What??German?? Why?? With complicated die, der, dem, das and nothing sexy about the rough language….Ich bin gerade sprachlos
