Essentially the same POV I expressed in one of my posts: https://www.reddit.com/r/RoyalsGossip/comments/1i29rty/some_historical_examples_of_king_consorts/

The way the current system works the husband of a king would likely be prince consort and the wife of a queen would likely be princess consort to make it clear that their consorts are ranked below them but that would just further expose the inherent misogyny in it being okay for a king to have a queen consort because queen is perceived as a lower rank than king. The spouse of the monarch should either always be king/queen consort (my preference) or prince/princess consort regardless of the genders of the couple.

In Spain the 21st Duchess of Medina Sidonia married her girlfriend 11 hours before her death. While she was alive her wife was the other Duchess and is now Dowager Duchess. Spain has generally been pretty progressive with titles so the law allowed this to automatically happen.
