  1. Seems like Mountain Hans likes the taste of Mustafa’s cock after all.

Sorry guys our bad next time WHEN WINGED HUSSARS NOT ARRIVED, you can fully enjoy turkish DELIGHT

  2. The greek patriot gang disapproves this decision and prepares an opposition against Austria

  3. It is important to note that “phobia” does not mean “hate”, but simply “irrational fear”. And, in my opinion, it is more islamophobic to cancel a statue over nebulous *concerns* (rather than, say, out respect for Muslim people).

  4. Imagine not honoring the king that saved them from muslim barbarians over fear of upseting muslims! FFS Austria!

  5. First, these news are super old. The statue has been in development for more than a decade.
Second, it is important to consider who is pushing for this statue. Its the FPÖ, the far right Identitarian movement and German-nationalist Burschenschafter. They want this statue as a sign of “victory of Christians over Muslims”, which is ahistoric and wrong. The siege was a culmination of a year-long war between two empires that were fighting over dominance in the Balkans and not some Crusades reloaded like the far-right wants to tell.
Additionally, the far-right was already using Kahlenberg as a sort of pilgrimage site and the City of Vienna feared the statue might escalate this even further.
So now we have only have the statue base, which has been there for 7 years and there is a sign that says we should leave war behind and work together in cooperation. The sign is in English, German and Polnish and I like this idea a lot more.

  6. Austria always produces some weird stuff… from inbred Habsburgs and that painter dude, to cancelling own nuclear power plants and cancelling a statue to please some sand terrorists

  7. I’m not a fan of it either, but what should we do?
Our politicians care so much about us that we still don’t have a plan for the next 5 years (we voted in September btw.)

You can’t even say anything against the Mainstream or without getting called a “notsee”, idiot, and so on.

I think the majority just wants to accept whats happening 🤷🏻

  8. Outdated ragebait on *my* ironic sibling bashing simulator?

  9. “Statue of barbarian killer cancelled over the feelings of barbarians”

  10. The most represented subject in monuments in Vienna is the Siege of Vienna and the victory of Jan Sobieski. So it’s not like they’re completely cancelling the topic. The Vienna city council doesn’t think that remembering a victory on the Turks is islamophobic. But the council does expect the statue will be used for promoting xenophobia and islamophobia, because one group has already been using the monument for their anti-islam and anti-Turkish propaganda. [Source](https://www.ots.at/presseaussendung/OTS_20241108_OTS0061/kulturstadtraetin-zur-debatte-um-sobieski-denkmal-keine-buehne-fuer-spaltung-der-gesellschaft).

In short, if right-wing extremists made the statue a political issue. No-one in their right mind will support placing the statue if it puts them in the right-wing extremist camp. So they fucked it up for everyone.

  11. Like anyone would be mad over the statue of a guy who beat the Ottomans fairly and squarely

  12. That‘s the headline.

In reality, they most likely wanted to save money.

  13. Nothing new from A🤮strians, really. Just after the battle, the austrian emperor Leopold I was arrogant towards Sobieski, insulted his son Jakub, did not allow to feed Polish soldiers and their horses, and when hungry soldiers tried to enter the city to buy food, austians opened fire to them. Poles were also forbidden to bury their dead on cemetaries inside the city and were ordered to bury them next to mass graves of Turkish soldiers.
One century later, Habsburg empire commited partitions of Poland, along with Prussia and Russian empire.
And Vienna had over three centuries to build the statue of Sobieski. They didn’t do that, because they didn’t care. The only reason why they want to do this right now is because all the right-wing identitarian bullshit of “protection of Christian European values” or other crap.

  14. I mean, there‘s a large church where the Polish troops gathered containing a chapel and a commemorative plaque both dedicated to Jan Sobieski. You can’t say he’s not remembered.

  15. Surely they can find a more recent Austrian hero with less of a hostile connection with Islam to celebrate?

  16. Since when opposing someone politically is discrimination of their religion?

  17. This is so stupid, 99% sure no muslim complained over it and its just some blue haired action group wanting to cater every aspect of society to a minority in hopes of acceptance

  18. So stupid, I doubt most Muslims would have cared as well

  19. Nevertheless its better that polish statues stay in poland

  20. They should honour their Muslim brothers with a statue of allah instead

  21. I don’t get it. Why not have a statue of someone preventing you getting conquered?

  22. He broke the Turkish siege not the muslim siege. But even if, wtf?

  23. Complain that the cancellation is discrimination and creates anti-Polish sentiment in Austria.

That this will cause negative attitudes, prejudices, and dislike against Poles as an ethnic group, Poland as their country, and their culture.

These includes ethnic prejudice against Poles and persons of Polish descent, other forms of discrimination, and mistreatment of Poles and the Polish diaspora.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. So very racist.

  24. Sure Islamophobia, yea Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth which had religious freedom, Muslim units in the army. Yea Islamophobic

  25. The polish king saved Austria, and he should be remembered as a hero by Austrians for saving them.

  26. Thing is i like not building statues of actual Kings (fuck monarchists), the reasoning here is so stupid tho. If we were to never build a statue of a leader who hurt some race of people there could never be another statue built.

  27. It’s okay the poles are used to the Austrians screwing them over.

  28. Austria, I demand you remove the memorial where King Přemysl Otakar II was defeated and died. It never happened, and if it did, then it is certainly Czechofobia

  29. Islamophobia is a code word for awareness that Muslims will perceive something as an insult and thus have to begin murdering kuffar children to restore balance.
