Baltic nations switch from Russian power grid to EU network • FRANCE 24 English

The three Baltic states on Saturday cut ties with Russia’s power grid to join the European Union’s network, the culmination of a years-long process that gained urgency with Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania – all former Soviet republics that are now in the European Union and NATO – had wanted to block Russia’s ability to geopolitically blackmail them via the electricity system.

  1. You hear green energy this green energy that. Yet when summer heat or winter cold comes, everyone needs GAS 😂 by human simply existing on earth, we are destroying it. The answer is not that simple.

  2. The second these countries don’t say or do exactly what these ridiculous Western European countries tell them too, that’s when you’re gonna see some real “geopolitical blackmail”..

  3. Wow, the energy that Europe makes comes from Russia. So now, they got to pay for the energy to get to Europe, Europe to make it and sell it back to them at a 30% mark up. The same Europe that is going bankrupt.

  4. There was a time when the Baltic states had been connected to what had then been the Soviet power grid but it’s understandable why those countries decided to disconnect from the Russian power grid.

  5. Can all you Russians out here stop using YouTube and switch to your own countries services? You really aren’t helping the reputation of your country.

  6. lol Estonia owes so much to Russia and the czar. They’re butthurt over Soviet Union, but it was literally the west that handed them over to Soviet Union…..

  7. German electricity prices have seen significant fluctuations in recent years, with notable increases during the energy crisis of 2022. As of April 1, 2024, households with basic supplier contracts were paying around 46 cents per kilowatt-hour, making it the most expensive option compared to other providers or special contracts.

  8. Great! Continue to do so in your countries to incur high cost to every household. Somehow, behind the supply chain, it is still supplied by Russia . Dumb S Baltic Nations will shut down N retrench jobs.

  9. as a French i don't understand what's so appealing about our mess, i mean we're angrier than ever since we're one of the countries that thought EU was the best of all futures possibles😂😂
