Today, the United States government did an executive order that, if passed, renders our democracy as rapidly ending. And the only thing stopping it is the good will of congress if it has any left. **This can happen to you.** Keep your voice heard. Urge and fight for Europe to become truly self-sufficient. Think about what you’ve achieved already and what you can in the future. One hundred years ago the mere concept of this union would appear impossible. Keep this ball rolling. Good luck!!

Ugh, “at least we are not like them” is the complacency that got us here in the first place.
Dutch VVD (Mark Rutte’s party) is in Renew Europe. The VVD is now cooperating in a coalition with far-right PVV (Geert Wilders’ party), because, according to the VVD, the center and the center-left are far more dangerous than the far-right. So they rather team up with the far-right.
Appeasers and enablers of the far-right are just as bad as the far-right itself. You don’t work together with enemies of Europe. You simply don’t. The current VVD has no business in Renew Europe.

We are guilty, we voted in spineless politicians who kept bending to the US will. Now we are where we are, with us being the theater of another war without being the bad ones for once.

No America absolutely cannot teach Europe how to do democracy. Neither Democrats nor especially Republicans should be even attempting to teach Europe the “proper ways” of democracy. If anything it should be Europe teaching America how to do democracy. The US government, and people need to sit down and take notes on how to do democracy again. God I envy European democracy, it seems far more stable and better in every way compared to US democracy.
100% i found it funny that americans complained about cancelled elections in romania, even though its not something that happened completely legally.
in 2016 interference, investigations etc. in 2020 they cant count an election, if they didnt “count it right” they revolt, pence is considered a traitor, trials and storming the capitor and all that jazz for 2 years at least. and somehow europeans are the ones that need to be taught a lesson in democracy

Just as a reminder, Brazil just indicted Bolsonaro and its VP for the coup attempt. The people who stormed the equivalent of the capitol were thrown into jail not much after the invasion.
Can’t think of any country that has destroyed it’s reputation so much in my lifetime.. growing up hearing all about America, the land of this and that, opportunities, freedom yada yada.. and now this.

American here. This isn’t surprising. Honestly I hope the pattern of other major countries deciding they don’t need us continues.
I no longer recognize my country. Richest country in the world and I can barely afford rent. I’m in danger of losing my health insurance because over here it’s a privilege and not a right. I fear for the lives of my trans brother and friends because violence against his community has increased dramatically. One of my best friends, who’s here on visa fears deportation despite doing nothing wrong and I can’t comfort her because they detain people indiscriminately to meet a quota.
If I had the means, I would leave, which pains me deeply. This is my home.
So many salty Americans in here, lol.
