A new Minister of Energy has been appointed in Moldova, Dorin Junghietu, who took the oath of office in the presence of President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean emphasized the strategic importance of the portfolio assumed by Minister Dorin Junghietu. “There are three main priorities. The first is ensuring the continuity of natural gas and electricity supply for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. The second priority, in this context, is ensuring that the Vulcănești-Chișinău line is put into operation according to the schedule. The third is to shorten the implementation cycles of investment projects in the energy production sector, including renewables, as well as in the field of energy efficiency.”
President Maia Sandu also mentioned that the primary expectation of the citizens is the completion of large energy infrastructure projects so that the Republic of Moldova can no longer be subject to energy blackmail, and citizens can be provided with energy at the best possible prices.
The new minister will be introduced today to the Ministry of Energy staff. Dorin Junghietu is an expert in gas and energy, with over 16 years of international professional experience in coordinating and commissioning several major projects in the energy sector.
Victor Parlicov, the former Minister of Energy of the Republic of Moldova, resigned from his position on December 5, 2024. The resignation was prompted by disagreements between the government and the minister, particularly regarding the handling of natural gas procurement. The minister rejected the government’s accusations that he had not done enough to ensure the gas supply.
