LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Local business owners are on high alert after police said the same suspect burglarized several businesses across the valley.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported the break-ins began in late December with the same man allegedly burglarizing at least 10 businesses in the same area.
“My employees are feeling a little bit scared too, so it’s been a little hard for them,” Liza Leas, the owner of Nevada Pool Supply said. “We don’t understand what’s happening but I guess this might be something that is going on all over.”
After the man broke into her business on Valentine’s Day, Leas said she and her staff feel on edge.
“The gentleman had gone through the window and then went to the front trying to go through our register where he wanted cash but there was no cash,” Leas said.
Leas explained this isn’t the first time the business had someone break into it.
She said that 8 months ago, a different person burglarized it looking for cash, she said she learned then not to leave money in the safe.
“We are trying to keep afloat and when you have something like this your insurance doesn’t cover broken glass, when someone keeps breaking in, it comes out of our own pockets to cover all of the expenses.”
This time, Metro Police say the same suspect who broke into Leas also burglarized nine other businesses in the area.
“I couldn’t believe that I was shocked, to be honest with you,” she said.
She is now taking action in hopes of preventing any future break-ins.
“I do have somebody coming in and we are going to be boarding up the inside of the windows so they cannot get into the store anymore, that’s the only thing I can think of, we don’t own the building we rent the building so it’s very hard for us to figure out what we are going to do to move forward because we can’t afford to have this happen to us all the time,” Leas said.
