So long as those driving these stupid vehicles have gotten their full license and done and passed the test for a bus/truck, no issue. The problem is that they do their test in a Fiat and then jump up to drive these things without knowing what they are doing.
These things are a scourge on all roads outside urban areas as well. Every farmer seems to think they need one. Nothing more than compensation for their manhood with an added tax break.

I am totally against a nanny state where you have your choice of car dictated but it’s gone beyond a joke the size of cars on our roads today, single people, childless couples, the elderly, people living in town etc buying these monster trucks when they have ZERO use for them. Even people with children don’t need tanks. People need to stop having the tank mentality where they think SUVs are safer, they are more dangerous than a normal car and you are putting everyone else on the road at serious risk.
Just make it a different licence , retest people who got there licenses in smaller older cars

As an American, I feel qualified to weigh in on large vehicles. “Ford Ranger” and “gargantuan” don’t really belong in the same sentence unless “is not” is between them. That said, your roads are not built for them. Yes yes, I understand buses exist; however, your buses have designated routes they follow. They aren’t trying to sneak down alleyways and side roads. Also, the buses don’t really fit either, but at least they’re socially responsible.
Over here, we have an epidemic of big vehicles. I am somewhat of an offender myself. I do not need the Land Cruiser (100 series, not a Prado) that I drive. By your standards, it would be quite large, but here it’s not. I do use it to ferry my friends around, move larger things, offroad, etc, so it’s not as if I’m totally ignoring utility. God help you if you get in the way of a mom in an Escalade. Safety technology needs a certain amount of space and I understand that, but people need to realize that they do NOT need pickup, SUV, etc. To anyone that says “I pay my taxes, don’t tell me what to drive”, I get it trust me. You cannot ignore that trucks are getting too big.
Look at a regular Ranger next to a Focus. The majority of the Focus is under the LOWEST point of the hood. If you’re out in the country side; whatever, but in urban environments, it’s a different story.
Bigger cars are far safer in a crash for the occupants.
You are way, way better off to be inside a Toyota LandCruiser or a Volvo SUV in a crash than a Nissan Micra or a Toyota Yaris, Ford Fiesta etc.
If a Nissan Micra crashes head first into a big Volvo SUV or a Toyota LandCruiser at 40mph the occupants of the Micra will be in hospital or dead. Their car will be destroyed. The passengers of the SUV will be able to open the door and walk away.
If any car hits a pedestrian at anything over 30mph you’ll be looking at a fatality or serious injuries.
They’re safer for drivers of them.
