Hey there guys, 4 of us are gonna go to Bortelid in July.
Do any of you living in the circle on the picture have any kind of suggestion what we can see around this area.
Really nothing specific we are looking for to see. Anything fits for us. I'm not asking someone to plan our trip, just to have some ideas.
We've been to Rysstad last year, so mostly from up there went to hike, seen some waterfalls, Stavkirke. So mostly not looking up north above Rysstad that much. Find already some sights to see, but wanna expand it a bit more, if any of you have some time and just share some insights with me, I would really appreciate it!
We also were around Farsund, and gonna go and do the same this year for a couple of days. So not so much looking around the south coast either.
Thank you for your time! And any suggestions you guys can give!

Brokke-Suleskard road and onwards to Lysebotn. Hike Kjerag.
Steinsfoss Lumber Slide, but that’s just outside your search area.
There’s also a B17 bomber crash site north of Evje.
These are right on the eastern edge of your circle; [https://www.visittelemark.no/ting-a-gjore/jettegrytene-p544563](https://www.visittelemark.no/ting-a-gjore/jettegrytene-p544563)
bygland airsports festival
They have built a path among the tree tops in Fyresdal that looks really cool. All the way north east in your circle. [https://www.visittelemark.no/fyresdal/hamaren](https://www.visittelemark.no/fyresdal/hamaren)
There is a climbing and mineral park on the way up to Bortelid, (technically in Evje)it’s fun.
Also if rafting is of interest there is a rafting center in Evje aswell.
The mineral park and the mineral hike in Evje are cool!

[Jettegrytene](https://www.visittelemark.no/ting-a-gjore/jettegrytene-p544563) is a nice place to see, or have some fun on sunny Day
Also, the walk along Fyresvatn in Fyresdal, as someone else mentioned. Was unable to find any link to it, but it’s easy to find if you’re in Fyresdal
You have chosen one of the most remote places south of the arctic circle 🙂
There are a few things and places to see that other already mentions in the “area”, I use “” because expect to have to drive a few hours at minimum for most things outside of bortelid, it literally means “Gone/far-away mountainside in Norwegian. But when it comes to nature and mountain walking – you have everything you can ever want 50km in all directions. I have been to Bortelid, but only in winter, I honestly think its a *very* quiet place in the summer months.
Evje is a bit of a tourist area, lot of camping and cabins there, so there are things going on there during the summer, maybe some festivals or something. I know there is a festival in Kvinesdal every summer around July over a weekend that can be fun, but again, its a bit of a drive. Its a pretty sparsely populated area in general so there is not that much going on – summer most Norwegians head for coastal areas.
Vemork powerstation museum
Why on earth are you choosing that specific area when there are so many really outstanding places to visit?
I am going to Bortelid in a few hours, have been there summer/winter since I was a kid. In summer it’s hiking the mountains thats my favorite. Depending on your hiking skills/physical fitness there are Turistforening cabins deep in the mountains that can be used as lodging if you venture on a longer hike. The highlands are beautiful and Bortelid is a good starting point. If the weather is nice bring a tent and watch the stars from mountain without light pollution. There is a rafting place at Hesså which can be recommended even though it’s not the most extreme. The valley next to Mandalen is Setesdalen and it’s more dramatic and there are more activities there. Instead of Farsund, Try Mandal, walk through the old town and take a trip to the beach/Furulunden, very nice when the weather is good.
Bortelid cross country ski area.
In the main setesdal valley you have:
Råirsfossen.
Brokke and hovden alpin ski senter
Trollaktiv (can rent equipment or do activities)
Valle via Ferrara
Evje dagshytte
Tømmer
Årdelsknappen
Bjøren boat
Music events in evje/revsnes/Bygland
Camping on the islands of Byglandsfjord
There’s some restaurants in evje(Thai one is best)
I live there so if you want specific suggestions i may be able to help.
Månafossen. Im not sure if this is inside the circled area but holy shit its Worth seeing.
