  1. It’s true. We should rearm ASAP buying as much European as possible while we still have the chance. It’s the only thing that would deter him from trying after he’s done licking his wounds should we fail Ukraine.

  2. From time to time, there are comments suggesting that military funding will lead to provocations. However, the reality is quite the opposite — insufficient funding is what truly provokes Russia. When a country fails to invest adequately in its defense then it’s an invitation for aggression. Without a strong military presence Russia perceives such nations as vulnerable and easily dominated.

  3. we hebben echt dringend nood aan een vredesbeweging. Die oorlogsretoriek is alom.

  4. XA4 kill-bots. Ik blijf het zeggen, de toekomst van de Vlaamse wapenindustrie. Draaien volledig op dagschotels, groene energie van eigen bodem

  5. Thanks to decades of lefties telling we need to cut military spending we’ve now ended here…

  6. €8 billion (1.3%) goes to defence, and Francken wants to up it to €12 billion (2.5%).

The government keeps saying they need to cut spending but are seemingly only willing to squeeze us, higher taxes and lower pensions.

I understand we need to start getting serious about our defence industry and army but yeah

  7. People here who are calling Belgium or it’s European allies war mongers simply don’t get it. We outsourced our security needs for the past almost 80 years to the United States and since 2016, it has become very clear that we cannot let our defense needs depends on a few thousands of votes in swing states in the US states. Making sure you have enough military deterrence doesn’t make you a “warmonger”: it is the most sound and logical move to make if you want to preserve peace & stability on the European continent.

In fact what we need to do is not necessarily strengthen the Belgian army, but try to work for a unified European army, where we can pool together all of our resources instead of dividing the defense budget as a cake in 27 parts (=27 EU member states), making it far less efficient and organized, compared to the American, Chinese or Russian armed forces, whom all have a unified chains of command. If we want to preserve our way of life and our democracies, we will have to turn the EU from a military paper tiger to an actual tiger with claws and sharp teeth. Trump is essentially enabling Putin to reestablish Russia’s former sphere of influence in Eastern Europe. And which each day passing an invasion of the Baltic countries also become more realistic, especially when the [US wants to wants to withdraw all US troops from new NATO territory after 1990](https://www.timesnownews.com/world/us-troops-to-withdraw-from-all-nato-countries-in-europe-officials-first-response-article-118397604/amp). With the US defense umbrella gone, there is not much weight to article 5 of NATO, which essentially is the only thing standing in between Russian invasion of the Baltics and Russia. We need to re-arm ASAP to have enough deterrence for Russia not to want to expand 1 inch further west, but it’s also important for us to show as a continent that we are not looking for a conflict with Russia, but simply want to preserve the status quo and our way of life. Russia wouldn’t dare to attack a strong, unified European army, and it would essentially help us to preserve peace on the European continent. But in the current situation with the union hopelessly divided, we are very easy prey for bullies like the US or Russia to come pick us off one by one.

  8. Now is the time for Europe to rearm. Now!
The Russian military is in tatters. Their most experienced fighters are dead and they’re using donkeys for logistics. They are on the ropes.
When an adversary is drowning, put a fire hose in their mouth.
    Save yourselves.

  9. “Voor de veiligheid van onze mensen” F Y! Europa vernietigt zichzelf ondertussen van binnenuit. Europa is allang niet meer veilig.
