No, he should be fined into oblivion. £1 million per employee.
Until ceo’s face a possible prison sentance as opposed to a fine paid for by company, this shit will continue.
Could make it a 2-4-1 and sack Grant Shapps while we’re at it.
Of course any boss who presides over brazen law breaking should resign says Grant Shapps, transport minister.
*Just not Boris Johnson over partygate.*
With the PM now weighing in that P&O’s boss should resign, we’ve crossed the irony line.
Grant Shapps is a literal sociopath and not even one of the smart ones, this moral outrage is some of the most performative crap I’ve ever seen. The entire country should be cringing hard at him being so prominent.
He clearly doesn’t care, probably doesn’t have the capacity to care, and he seems to bank on nobody noticing that he has a history of scamming people, lying about it, threatening people with legal processes, and editing/trying to delete this from his Wikipedia entry to cover it up. He’s done it multiple times, it’s not a mistake.
His entire career is car crash after car crash, and somehow he’s in the cabinet?
70 million people, and the get rich quick guy is the person in a position of responsibility overseeing this?
>In September 2012, Google blacklisted 19 of the Shapps’s business websites for violating rules on copyright infringement related to the web scraping-based TrafficPayMaster software sold by them.[23][24] Shapps’s web marketing business’s 20/20 Challenge publication also drew criticism. It cost $497 and promised customers earnings of $20,000 in 20 days. Upon purchase, the “toolkit” was revealed to be an ebook, advising the user to create their own toolkit and recruit 100 “Joint Venture Partners” to resell it for a share of the profits.[25]
>Shapps’s use of the names Michael Green, Corinne Stockheath and Sebastian Fox attracted controversy in 2012. He denied having used a pseudonym after entering parliament and, in 2014, threatened legal action against a constituent who had stated on Facebook that he had. In February 2015 he told LBC Radio presenter Shelagh Fogarty, “Let me get this absolutely clear … I don’t have a second job and have never had a second job while being an MP. End of story.”[26]
>However, in March 2015, Shapps admitted to having had a second job while being an MP, and practising business under a pseudonym.[27][28] In his admission, he stated that he had “over-firmly denied” having a second job.[29] Under the name Michael Green, Shapps had offered customers a “get-rich-quick scheme” costing $497, and promised customers a “toolkit” that would earn them $20,000 in 20 days, provided they followed its instructions.[30] In March 2015, Dean Archer, the constituent previously threatened with legal action by Shapps, threatened Shapps with legal action.
Oh, he’ll quit with his bonus and a large pay package for the inconvience of having to quit to please the lesser minions beneath his station. Meanwhile, those 800 people? They are having to find work, jump through DWP’s hoops and potentially lose their pension because P&O “lost” it.
The government clearly won’t say “those who break the law should quit” though..
I’m deeply uncomfortable with government ministers making calls for individuals from private companies to resign. This is pure populism by the Tories, change or strengthen the law if they want to ensure it doesn’t happen again but stay out of the management of private industry
They knew they would get away with it because with our dependence on the company for commerce shipping, the government doesn’t have a leg to stand on. This is why all essential services should be nationalised.
