> We condemn Scottish Labour’s U-Turn on Gender Recognition Reform. This betrayal of Scotland’s LGBT+ community inflicts hurt on some of our most vulnerable in society. Rather than stand alongside us, Scottish Labour have amplified a national and international onslaught against those who seek nothing more than recognition and equality. Our labour movement is built on respect, tolerance, and solidarity for those in struggle. The Labour leadership would do well to embody those principles.
Social media versions for those that way inclined:
It isn’t really a good sign for a *Labour* party when labour unions turn against them.
Been putting this in every thread: trans people’s right to use the appropriately-gendered facilities at work has been protected in law since 1999.
It is protected in law because without that right, trans people are unable to live normal lives and are denied basic human rights and participation in society.
Of course, in a democracy, anyone can argue for any legal change they like. But we must be clear that opponents of trans people using facilities are trying to ROLL BACK a TWENTY-SIX-YEAR-OLD right. Their whole game is to pretend otherwise.
No different to the Tories are Labour
Take out the alphabet group and be about gay persons male and female two genders only and you may find this sort of thing not occurring. The people who are gay or bi got there program hijacked by a group that really doesn’t represent the average gay person. Go back to gay rights and cut the rest out and you will find broad public support. Keep including and adding to the alphabet and you will loose way more than of those folks could have brought to your movement for equality.
I do wonder which minority Labour are going to shit on next. They really seem to be going hard for the nasty party tag to try and look good to the right wing Press.
Labour silenced their own LGBTQ+ branch, Starmer couldn’t care less.
The Labour Party hasn’t represented trade unions for a very long time
