    Rich people spend the most money. They’ll pay the most tax. So they’ll say.

    What they won’t say is that it’s taxed in us dollars, but the rich will spend in untraceable digital currency.

    So naturally, this will hurt poor people the most.

    I think that state income taxes are going to increase as states take on greater responsibility foisted upon them by the federal government.

23. I’m retired. When I was young, I remember the party of the rich wanted to implement a flat income tax, rather than keep the progressive income tax the US had. At this point in my early retirement, the US now taxes the rich at lower rates than it taxes successful middle-class folks. So, at the low end the federal taxes still look progressive, but for the rich they are regressive. So where do they go now? Well, they want to eliminate an income tax and introduce tariffs, which are known to be very regressive.

    I watched the party of the rich have majorities in congress and the presidency under Bush W. The only major piece of legislation passed were tax cuts for the rich. Healthcare was a huge issue at the time, but they did nothing. Some years later the party of the rich had control again, but again, the only significant legislation they passed was tax cuts for the rich and global corporations. Again, healthcare was a big issue, but they did nothing. They promised to repeal and replace ACA, but no. Trump I & company just passed tax cuts primarily for the rich & their corporations. Here we are again, the party of the rich, Republicans, once again have control and want to cut taxes and increase tariffs on countries that do not level the playing field. But as decades pass, they are less bashful about doing just for the rich, and screwing Americans.

    So, we are being told we must be prepared. Prepared for services cuts, prepared for higher costs due to tariffs, the belt must be tightened. Meanwhile the IRS will be crushed, the last hope of any progressive taxes destroyed with it. And replaced with tariffs and anything else that is regressive rather than progressive.

    And why not. After all the rich contribute and lobby and own the bulk of the corporations that lobby and donate. And they own the media that brainwashes us. It is just a perfect time to be a billionaire in the USA.

26. The amount tariffs would need to be to pay for 6+ trillion in federal spending and replace the 2 trillion in income tax revenues; is so laughably absurd. We are talking orders of magnitude higher. Like an Xbox would cost the same as like a car today.

    And that means we stop buying anything imported, which means less money from tariffs.

    This can’t be the plan of a man who actually wants America to survive.
