Mitch McConnell (1) demanded every member of his caucus reflexively oppose every single piece of legislation the Democrats tried to pass in 2009-2010, and (2) broke the Senate’s role in confirming executive nominees by refusing to hold any hearings on Merrick Garland’s SCOTUS nomination. That led to Trump becoming president the first time.

    Then he refused to vote to convict Trump during his impeachment over January 6th, and refused to put forward legislation that would have barred Trump from ever running for president again. That led to Trump becoming president the second time.

    Now Mitch has nothing, the political party he devoted his life and career to has become a Star Wars bar of scam artists, neckbeards, white supremacists and crypto weirdos, and his declining health led to him losing his position as majority leader. The president doesn’t listen to him, the GOP base hates him, and his legacy will be how the cynicism with which he always approached politics set the country he purports to love on a glide path to decline.
