Around 1967-68 in London (likely to be North or East London), you can see the sign saying “Regency Cafeteria” in the background

  1. I can find a couple of references to “Regency Cafeteria” being a brand used by Butlins (and very little else), which might be an avenue to pursue? Though it would probably rule out this actually being in London.

  2. I got you fam.

That’s lawn outside the old Regency Cafeteria.

    Happy to help 🙏🏼

  3. No idea but I wouldn’t go there it messed up those people’s faces

  4. That looks like the park opposite the Regency Cafe on Regency Street

  5. This is where it should be. Butlins Minehead. The picture is from 1968, which you mention is the same date of your photograph. However, I have been unable to find any sort of structure that looks similar to the “Regency Cafeteria”. The image seems high quality enough that the letters would at least be somewhat discernable.

Also, given that your photograph is taken from the same year as the aerial photograph, I would expect to see the patches of raised grass/flowers within the field as seen in your photograph. However, I can’t seem to find anything like that within yours.

Where people seem to be relaxing/hanging out is where I would expect the cafe to be (although I have searched all over the photograph) but I can’t find a structure that resembles it.

EDIT: I’m not 100% sure that your photograph is from 1968 as the website about Butlins Minehead shows that the “Regency Cafeteria” was added in 1982. But then it’s a black and white photograph which seems a little late to not have colour?

    So, the options are:
    – Your photograph is nowhere near this Butlins Minehead and is more likely in London as you have mentioned

    – We can’t see the cafeteria from this oblique photograph

    – The event space changed and the dates of oblique or your photograph are wrong

  6. I do understand why you censored the faces, but the thought of censoring people from 57 years ago is quite funny

  7. You want the experts over at /r/whereisthis and /r/wherewasthistaken for this.
