I grew up hearing about the ISS as a symbol of international cooperation in an atmosphere of the “end of history.” Finally, the US, Russia, Europe, and Japan were able to work together for the future of humanity. We were enough at peace that we could build such a large project. An era of hope that last only a few years.

    The deorbiting of the ISS would be very sad. Its replacement by private-company or single-state-owned stations is somehow symbolic of the rise of nationalism, conflict, and the end of dialogue between nations.

    Fuck Musk, fuck Trump, fuck Putin.

If this space nazi actually stuck to being involved in space shit and didn’t use his money to insert himself into everything thinking he’s part of some fallout new vegas dlc where he saves the wasteland I’d be more interested in hearing what he has to say. I believe the ISS was already scheduled to be decommissioned not but 5 years from now so it’s not a terrible thing to do it sooner.

But rage-bait certainly gets the clicks. 100% of people clicked *or didn’t click* not knowing NASA already had a plan to deorbit the ISS in 2030 and that they made a contract for SpaceX to do the operation during the Biden administration.
