  1. >*Moreover, most of the initial wave of American emigration will likely feature those with the means to leave—those who possess foreign passports, job opportunities abroad, or lots of disposable income.*

So it just ends up being the people who are actually valuable and who you wouldn’t want to leave in normal circumstances that do.

*Obviously, emigrating won’t solve this country’s problems. But many of those problems will take a lot more than an election to solve because they stem from deep structural flaws in our system of government rooted in an antiquated constitution and a political culture contaminated by selfishness, ignorance, cruelty, violence, and authoritarian white, Christian supremacy.*

That’s the whole point, the people leaving are no longer interested in trying to “fix” a broken system.

    >*But it’s also important to understand that many Americans have spent their lives fighting just to exist*

Exactly, and those people don’t “owe” the US anything.

  2. Similar to when a company that starts laying off people and cutting back benefits. The high performers with job options jump ship to greener pastures, deepening the cuts and hastening the downward spiral at the company.

The U.S. is becoming that unstable company with high performers evaluating their options.

  3. Unfortunately it’s Democrats leaving since Trump has declared himself king. If there is ever another election it’s going to be very hard to stop the republican candidate from winning. I guess that’s why they are leaving because there will never be another election now that we have a King/dictator.

  4. How long until American workers start running into foreign embassies asking for asylum….

  5. Good. We’ll take the Latin Americans instead and America will be greener than ever. More wholesome than ever.

  6. American citizens right now

  7. Come to Europe

We need your skills and your knowledge

  8. This is the perfect time for an exit. Everyone taking the plunge, please let us know where you are going and keep us updated on your journey and progress.

  9. Yes I am moving to Brazil and Thailand soon full time. USA is over.

  10. Important to note that the article relies mainly on anecdotal evidence, surveys of people “wanting to leave” (which is different from those with the means and will to do so), and an uptick in searches and contacts about how to do it.

The article doesn’t present hard numbers on how many people have left in the wake of Trump, because those numbers aren’t compiled yet.

Something to keep an eye on for sure, but the jury is still out on this being a serious phenomenon that the US should be concerned about.
