Sveiki! I recently visited Riga, and i got a bit obsessed with a song i heard in a couple of bars.

Edit: I'm reasonably confident it's this song:

(But I could be wrong since it was very much not midsummer when i visited!)

But by any chance does anyone know the version they play in the Labietis bar (it was one of a whole bunch of really atmospheric traditional-sounding songs that i loved)? From what i can remember, the chorus was sung in a choral style, with lots of voices, and it felt a lot more intense and foreboding than the interpretations i've found so far. And most versions I've found so far are sung by women with very feminine voices, whereas I think the one i'm trying to find was a lot less obviously gendered – to me it sounded sort of like wild children singing in a dark, misty forest or cave.

Super grateful if anyone can help! I heard it again in a different bar, so hoping it's not too obscure.

  1. It probably wasn’t Līgo, if it wasn’t during midsummer.

  2. Līgo is the summer solstice celebration and there’s not a single song that represents it. There’s a whole lot of different songs for this celebration that happen to have a common part of “Līīgoo, līgo” as sort of a mantra.

So, looking for “Līgo dziesmas” would probably be your best bet in trying to find something that sounds like the one you heard, but also the description perhaps sounds like [something from the Song and Dance festival?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXXwX3IPIhI) . If that’s the sound you are looking for you can look from there.

  3. Līgo by the ludvig? Song from this years selection to go to Eurovision
