Does Elon Musk Still Care About Selling Cars? He has offered no concrete plan to revive Tesla’s declining sales. He seems to have lost interest in the business of developing, producing and selling cars, investors and analysts say. Musk’s right-wing political activities have also alienated customers.

    Every time you see a board who complains from now on about profits, just know that if given the choice every one of them would happily sacrifice those profits for raw power, or shitting on people that don’t share their ideology.

    The demands for more profits are just a ruse to get to the other things.

  3. It should be obvious by now, but Tesla was/is a marketing company that happens to sell cars.

  4. His maturity and attention span are that of a 14 yr old. He wanted a new car, and a buck the car dealer system – so those things work…. quality, service – etc, the less fun part he could not care less about.

  5. Elon Musk can lose 99.5% of his net worth and he would still be a billionaire.

    So I don’t think he cares about making money that much anymore.

  7. People are pricing Tesla like an AI company but it has the fixed costs of an Auto company, which means if Tesla stops paying for its fixed costs than it’s going to be in trouble quite quickly.

  8. There are two new vehicles to be announced this year. Robotaxis are also scheduled to begin later this year. FSD is improving quickly. Tesla has plans to build a manufacturing site in India to serve their market. And this is just automotive.

  9. There are people for that. He’s not running a mom-n-pop shop on Main Street. Good grief. And unless you’ve been following him around for a week, how do you know how involved he is or isn’t any any of his enterprises?

  12. At the end of the day, Musk is out to make money. Tesla proved to be a good way to make money. Now he’s found a better way, by leveraging the levers of governmental power to funnel money directly into his own pockets via contracts and massive tax breaks for Oligarchs. He’s also not answerable to anyone in this “DOGE” position, whereas with Tesla he has stockholders and, to a much lesser degree, the Tesla Board watching his actions.

    So yeah, why does he need Tesla, or any other money making venture, when he’s found a way to just take money directly from every single one of the 300+ million tax payers in the US directly?

  19. He has direct access to easy government money now, so the car money isn’t necessary. The cars feel like a pretty big distraction to him at this point. 

  20. SpaceX is becoming the far more valuable Musk company, and Tesla could pivot to mainly govt contracts and robo-taxis, if they aren’t selling well to consumers.
