I'm posting this because I think the lesson here is that we should be far more appreciative of our apprenticeship system. One of the unfortunate side effects of globalization in my opinion is that when people hear "apprenticeship" now, they think it's like in the US (as these guys describe) where you just learn on the job and there's not much in the way of a structured program or a real qualification, when in reality, we actually have trained professionals here that know their jobs.
Also, maybe possibly perhaps not all government regulation is bad. Just throwing that out there.

Thats funny, my yt algo recommended this video a few weeks ago. I as an carpenter watched this and didnt knew this channel before and now it shows up here 🙂
our own apprenticeship system with dual education of part time school and part time training in the company that is again divided into part specific exercises and part participation in the actual profession is the actual best training system in the world.
It’s infuriating saddening that Swiss people aren’t aware of it and downtalk some of our greatest assets that are quite literally a major reason why we are competitive with MUCH larger countries economically and scientifically.
I watched their entire Switzerland series, it highlights a lot of the building methodology and technology differences
Can’t agree with you more. Our apprenticeships are so great and we really have to protect them!
As an American who has been around plenty of carpentry I can agree that Swiss carpentry and craftsmanship especially in home building is absolutely next level. Never seen anything like it. Especially watching how you guys build roofing systems is pretty mind blowing. That said the Americans build some pretty terrible quality homes, especially in the southeast, better quality in the northwest however.
That SIGA tour 2023 impressed a lot of American tradespeople. You find some more videos from those guys visiting construction sites and all of them totally freak out about our windows 🙂
I saw the video like a year ago, his video on soundproofing in switzerland is also nice.
You can clearly see that he has a lot of experience and recognises the advantages of the swiss system. It takes quite some knowledge to see that you could do something in a different way and recognize it as a sometimes better method.
I respect him for that, as well as the carpentry school that let him visit.
