ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) – UPDATE: DOTD announced at 7:45 p.m. that the northbound lanes of I-49 have been reopened. They said the southbound lanes remain closed at this time as the clean-up process is ongoing.
PRIOR REPORT: At 3:15 p.m. the City of Alexandria announced via a press release that the northbound lanes on I-49 through Alexandria were reopened to traffic and that southbound lands are still closed.
On Feb. 21, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) confirmed that both the northbound and southbound lanes of I-49 in Alexandria were closed due to a crash involving a tanker truck that spilled oil onto the interstate near the Broadway Avenue exit.

The City of Alexandria said there were no injuries and the truck contained crude oil.

Louisiana State Police Hazmat, in coordination with Alexandria Fire and the Rapides Parish Fire District, were on the scene for cleanup.
Eyewitnesses also confirmed oil on the roadway.
