‘The Seers’: Sulaiman Addonia on his tale of an Eritrean refugee in London • FRANCE 24 English

An author who spent his early life living in a refugee camp in Sudan, his early teens in Saudi Arabia and then arrived in London as an underage unaccompanied refugee speaking no English, has told FRANCE 24 how he turned his life around, and how his books reflect the situations he has found himself in. Sulaiman Addonia went on to earn degrees in development studies and economics. His latest book “The Seers” tells the story of a homeless Eritrean in London, and the sexual encounters she faces as she tries to negotiate a foreign land. He spoke to us in Perspective ahead of his appearance at the Paris bookshop Shakespeare and Company this Thursday.

  1. If the Americans and Russian were always saying, ' we are the children of nuclear weapons'!

We, the Eritreans also say ' we are the children of both immigration and emigration! always'!

and to your surprise also, based on some of the EU, US, Canada and Australia studies and reports, the tail of history of our story of immigration go to the prophet Muhammad's followers immigration to our home land! the land of Habasha! Eritrea and Ethiopia!

And that, immigration lesft us a huge influence and impact! That's way, we are always everywhere! immigrating and scattering everywhere! and no any damned nation can refuses us! wether it's the EU, the US, Canada or Australia!

  2. Erterian president every year for the past 33 years promises them that he will develop the country as Singapore now they ended up in refuge

  3. He is not Eritrean, his father is Ethiopian so he takes his father's nationality. He may live in Eritrea as his mom is ftom eritrea but he is not eritrean. So calling himself Eritrean is wrong. Nationally in eritrea is different, a child takes his/ her father nationality. His father may be naturalised after living 40 yrs

  4. Interesting how ambitious ( even asylum seekers) Ethiopians, particularly Tegarus to now falsely claim that they are Eritreans or half Eritreans. It has become a big cache in the West for Ethiopians to pass as an Eritreans!!! Amazing.

  5. This is a poignant and touching story about a remarkable Eritrean man. It’s heartbreaking to see how many Eritrean children lose their precious childhoods due to the impacts of politics and war. I truly look forward to reading this book 🙏♥️♥️♥️

  6. When I read his biography it’s says he’s father is from Ethiopia and his mother is from Eritrea, so why everyone says he is from Eritrea He is Ethiopian and Eritrean

  7. OMG! What difference would that make Ethiopian or Eritrean. Can we just admire his talent and help him succeed by buying his book and read it?

  8. A truly wonderful human being and writer! As a young, aspiring writer, he was kind enough to meet with me 15 years ago and was so encouraging. Read The Consequences of Love if you haven’t already. Can’t wait to read this new one ❤
