One of my all time favorite songs is 'John Taylor's Month Away' by King Creosote and Jon Hopkins, and in a live performance on YouTube Kenny Anderson talks about meeting his neighbor, who sleeps on a "burnt out city". As an American, this decipherable phrase has been gnawing me alive since I found this video years ago. Please help.
00:25 is the relevant bit

I can see your confusion! He actually says the man was sleeping on “a burnt-out settee” – a couch or sofa.
He’s saying “on a burnt-out settee”, so a sofa.
A burnt out setee (sofa, couch).
Thanks for the chuckle.
It’s “burnt out settee” which is a sofa/couch
Thanks everyone! I can now rest easy now every time I replay this beautiful song.
