HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (7News) — Two people were shot near The Mall in Columbia Saturday around 6:30 p.m., and police are asking the public to avoid the area as they investigate. Police officials will speak at a briefing at 9:15 p.m.

Police clarified in a post on X that the shooting did not happen inside the mall; it was in the area of the Lidl grocery store and bus stop. Mall operations remained normal and closed at 8 p.m.

Police said there was no active shooter threat to the mall, but a suspect has not yet been taken into custody.
